04 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE As entered the new millennium, it set its ambitions higher. In the space of a decade, the city was transformed, from a regional trading entrepôt to a major global business and leisure hub. The construction boom from 2001 onwards has created a city that has caught the imagination of the world. It is in this period that we also changed as a company. The city created opportunities that eventually gave us scale; the city s ambition to be nothing less than world-class pushed us to stay focused on quality; an open and welcoming market meant that we acquired the skills and knowhow to compete with the world s best. We are now one of the few construction companies in the region that can offer complete contracting solutions. Through our subsidiaries, we have the full range of construction capabilities. This gives us unparalleled control on our destiny and allows us to deliver the highest standards of quality and service to our clients. We place the highest emphasis on health, safety and environment (HSE) and this is reflected in the accreditations we have and our HSE track record, which are second to none. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT ASGC HAS GROWN HAND IN HAND WITH DUBAI AND THE UAE. AS THE COUNTRY S GROWTH ACCELERATED IN THE 1990 S, NEW OPPORTUNITIES AROSE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. WE ROSE TO THE CHALLENGE AND SUCCEEDED IN DELIVERING ON THE EXPECTATIONS OF OUR CUSTOMERS. I attribute our overall success to three factors firstly the support provided by our shareholders; secondly ASGC s ethical and quality-orientated dealings with clients and suppliers and thirdly, the exemplary dedication and efforts put in by our truly professional and committed workforce. 07 OUR APPROACH Quality At ASGC we are committed to providing our clients with the highest standards of quality and service available. Delivery We fully recognize that the on-time delivery of large-scale construction projects is a primary requirement for all of our clients. ASGC has an enviable reputation for meeting deadlines and successfully handing over projects on schedule. We are very proud of the reputation for reliability. This has been built throughout the Company s history and we aim to maintain it at all costs. As an integral part of this commitment we have developed a series of procedures and processes that reflect our quality and delivery ethos. These are available to all staff via our internal ASGC Intranet. Regular updates and training sessions are held to ensure that all staff is aware of our standard operating procedures. Our overall objective is to exceed client expectations. Bureau Veritas gave us the BS EN ISO 9001 accreditation in 1999. We were one of the first contractors in the UAE to gain this accolade of excellence. From project award onwards, we interact closely with clients and consultants to firmly establish all project requirements. We ensure that controls for resources, workmanship, documentation, inspection and testing, handover and all other on- and off-site activities are fully established and implemented. 14 ASGC Corporate Profile ASGC Corporate Profile 15

08 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT The health and safety of our employees and everyone else affected by our activities is fundamental to the success of our business. We strive to align our own business practices and principles trough the projects we deliver to our clients. The safety of our people and the communities in which we operate always comes first. We believe that our long-term success as a business is dependent upon the ability to keep our workforce and members of the public safe. Our philosophy is to continually strive for a Zero Harm environment. Accordingly we enforce very strict health and safety procedures throughout our operations, in the belief that all accidents can be avoided by implementing robust risk elimination protocols. Each operation assesses further controls that may be required to manage the specific risks at their operation to meet the objective of no fatalities. The success of our focus on continual improvement of our HSE management system is reflected in our British Safety Council membership and OHSAS 18001 (health and safety) and BS EN ISO 14001 (environment) accreditations. The majority of our projects have achieved LEED and ESTIDAMA accreditation. We continue to provide opportunities for interaction to improve our safety performance. Routine engagement with employees and workers includes health and safety committees; pre-start meetings; on-site safety coaches, discussing job-specific safety risks; and safety toolbox talks; all of which visibly demonstrate our priority of working safely. In line with our culture of care, we undertake activities to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees. This includes the provision of preventative health measures, sport facilities, food catering services at our worker accommodation camps, and employee well-being programs focused on awareness, support and pro-active management of employees. 16 ASGC Corporate Profile ASGC Corporate Profile 17

09 TECHNOLOGY The UAE has a strong vision for developing smarter communities that are powered by cutting-edge technology solutions, although many companies have yet to follow suit in becoming truly digitally-enabled. As the UAE continues its climb to be the leader in innovation and technology globally, ASGC is adopting new disruptive technologies that add value to company s partners, customers, and employees. In recent years, we have employed a chief transformation officer and adopted a range of technologies from drones to RFID and biometrics to improve business processes. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is used throughout the company s operations, as is building information modelling (BIM) software to tender, procure, monitor and handover construction projects. Technologies which we are implementing are disrupting traditional models for planning, staffing, monitoring, and delivering projects as the physical world becomes increasingly digitized. Every single industry will be going through massive digital disruption over the next decade. If businesses want to survive and thrive, they need to transform. We look forward to entering the next phase of our growth by driving efficiency through digitally-integrated processes. There is significant development in the technology sector that can help ASGC to become more streamlined and efficient. Some of these technologies that we use include: Drones in Construction One technological development attracting attention far beyond the construction sector is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly called drones. ASGC has developed the drone technology in-house and started its implementation for all of the projects since 2016. It is being used for a vast array of tasks; from site surveys in the initial stages of a project to monitoring throughout the construction phase. The most advanced drones are fitted with radio frequency identification (RFID) which allows them to accurately track the location of pipes, plates and other metal products on site. Using a drone to take measurements and carry out surveys on these challenging projects is enabling ASGC to reduce the risk of accidents and save considerable time in development. IoT Data applications The optimized distribution, usage and utilization of assets is at the core of any well-managed business. The construction industry is no different. From people and time to machinery and materials, the smart application of censor technology commonly referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT) is already being integrated with existing business platforms. However, by further adding business intelligence and artificial intelligence layers, ASGC will be able to further streamline the procurement, distribution, tracking and utilization of assets, while creating new efficiencies as companies prepare more accurate maintenance cycles. It will also give project managers greater insight into their workforce, allowing them to assign more targeted employee training and safety protocol in line with UAE labor laws. Building Information Modelling (BIM) BIM is fast becoming the norm, rather than the exception, in UAE construction. BIM makes it easy to visualize, estimate, budget and plan a project from its conceptualization to implementation phase. It also helps different project teams to collaborate on a real-time basis, minimizing expensive reworks, significantly reducing project costs and improving efficiency. Ultimately, BIM has the potential to be more than just a data tool by becoming an enabling platform for the integration of other technologies. These technologies help us today to bridge the gap between concept and reality. At ASGC, we have a dedicated BIM team of 30 engineers developing BIM models for all of our projects. 18 ASGC Corporate Profile ASGC Corporate Profile 19
