Draft Schedule of Events 2018 NCLGA Annual Conference Fort Nelson, BC The Road Ahead May 8 10, 2018 Monday, May 7 Time Event Location 8:00 AM 3:00 PM Northern Healthy Communities Forum 2018 3:15 6:00 PM Rural Roundtable Roughly 90% of the NCLGA region is rural, and these areas hold so much of our economic development potential, have internationally recognized environmental value and include some of the most culturally significant places in Canada. Listen in and take notes as rural directors discuss their priorities and perspectives, best practices and identify common opportunities.all in real time! All delegates are welcome to attend. Only Electoral Area Directors will be speaking, although there will be an opportunity following the session to network, ask questions and offer suggestions. Snacks and refreshments included. 6:00 9:00 PM NCLGA Strategy Session: This is your opportunity to be part of shaping your area associations future. Be part of creating the NCLGA s strategic plan for the next four years. All delegates are welcome, snacks and refreshments provided. Casual Supper included.

Tuesday, May 8 Time Event Location 8:00 AM 4:00 PM Registration Main Lobby 7:00 AM 5:30 PM Alaska Highway Experience Enjoy some of the sights and stops along the world famous Alaska Highway. This tour will take you up the Alaska Highway with stops at historic and scenic places of interest. The tour will turn around at Mile 496 of the highway but not before you have a chance to soak in the amazing Liard River Hot Springs. Participants will meet at the front entrance and board a coach for the trip north. A light breakfast snack will be provided on the bus and lunch will be provided along the way. If you would like to experience the hot springs, please bring a swimsuit and towel. 8:30 AM 4:30 PM Innovative Agriculture Tour Tour some of the unique Northern Rockies agricultural based businesses and initiatives. This tour will visit the Northern Rockies vermicomposting project at our local landfill, a large successful local farm, and one of Young Living s essential oil processing facilities of the highly sought after Black Spruce Oil. Participants will meet at the front entrance and board a coach for the tour. A bag lunch will be provided. 8:30 AM 4:30 PM First Nations Cultural Experience Off-site Spend some time with members of Fort Nelson First Nation to share and celebrate some of the places and stories significant to their success. Tour their innovative Health and Wellness Centre, Chalo School, Dance Arbor, and others. Share in an opportunity to learn about their plans for the future and how they honour their past.

Cities and towns are struggling to provide housing to the poorest citizens as well as low and middle income earners. There s no time to waste in taking action to curb this trend. No one level of government can solve this alone, so we re working together and bringing new ideas to the table. Municipal Affairs and Housing Ministry staff will reveal some of the key ideas that came out of the successful Housing Partnerships Conference last December. They will share how provincial and municipal governments are partnering to unlock affordable housing solutions. The event will focus on: Understanding the technology & innovation ecosystem in the region, including key sectors, opportunities, challenges and stakeholders; Understanding the role of local governments, economic development officers and other stakeholders/service providers in promoting /supporting technology & innovation; Highlighting opportunities related to Smart Community initiatives; and discussion & engagement related to issues of regional interest and importance, as identified by regional stakeholders.
