The Glacier Symphony is pleased to announce the 2018 Scholarship Program for Young Musicians. Following are the requirements that must be met to be eligible: The Glacier Symphony is now accepting applications for a limited number of music scholarships for students from grade 9 th through 12 th, including graduating seniors. The scholarship is open to young musicians who have performed with the Symphony for 3 or more concerts this season or sung with the Chorale on a regular basis. In addition young musicians who are not currently active with the Symphony or Chorale may also apply as At Large applicants. Awards will be used for private lessons or music studies at an institution. The purposes of the scholarships are to encourage student participation in the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, and to assist those musicians in pursuing musical careers or an avocation in music. The award of scholarships will be based on musical ability and potential as determined by the Scholarship Committee. The recipients will be announced at our April 7/8, 2018 Easter Festival Concerts and the Graduating Senior Awards will be presented at the student s high school spring award assembly. We ask that students who receive scholarships be available at both of these concerts (Sat. night at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm to be recognized on stage). Funds will not be distributed directly to the recipients, but will be sent to the private music teacher, music camp, or institution indicated in the application materials. AND APPLICATION GUIDELINES Purpose: The has established this scholarship program to encourage young musicians who play with the Glacier Orchestra or sing with the Glacier Chorale to pursue their education in music or to invest their time and energy in improving their musicianship. Eligibility: Eligibility: The Glacier Symphony and Chorale will accept applications for a limited number of scholarships from students who have played with the Glacier Symphony for at least 3 concerts during the (17/2018) season or who are on the permanent orchestra substitution list, or those who have sung in the Glacier Chorale. In addition, when funds are available, at-large scholarships may be provided to outstanding music students who show exceptional ability, but have not yet had the opportunity to perform with the. Scholarships must be used for students to further their musical careers through camps, private lessons, or college tuition. Those eligible can be from 9 th to 12 th grades, including seniors who are graduating. Scholarship Amounts: It is anticipated that individual awards will be in the range of $200. to $500. If lessons are discontinued, camp not attended, or if the college award winners were to decide not to go to college, the remaining funds are to be returned so another student may benefit from the scholarship program in the future.
