Welcome! 2018-19 Welcome! For new students, we want to extend a warm welcome. For returning students, we want to welcome you back after a fantastic recital and great summer session. Registration: You may register with the paper form as in years past, or through our online system, available through our website at www.villagedancearts.org (Online Registration). New Classes Offered: Beginning level classes in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, tumbling and musical theater. Please see schedule for full selection and more details. Royal Academy of Dance Examinations: Ballet students have the opportunity of working towards a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded examination at the Primary level and above. Primary level students must take 2 classes per week. Grade 1 level and above require the student to take all technique classes offered per week at their level. All ballet students are highly encouraged to take modern dance classes to supplement their ballet technique. Students studying at a higher level or considering a career in dance may elect to study for vocational exams. Vocational candidates must have consistent attendance in their technique classes 3 to 5 times per week. For students considering taking a vocational exam, parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled before winter break to assess if the student is prepared to participate this year. A late fee of $10 will be applied for payments received after the 15 th of the month. Tuition fees do not include recital, costume, workshop, extra exam classes or exam fees. Students are encouraged to make up any missed classes. Make-up classes must be taken in the same session of the missed class. No refunds or credits will be issued for missed classes. If your child is not continuing in a class, is adding a class, or his/her enrollment otherwise changes, please notify the office at least one week in advance of the next billing cycle. Failure to do so may result in additional fees. Family discounts: Siblings registered for up to 6 hours will be counted as one student. Siblings registered for more than 6 total hours per week will receive a 10% discount on each student s tuition.

Studio Policies 2018-19 Tuition: Tuition is based on a 10-month year and is divided into three sessions: Fall August 27 to December 19 Winter January 7 to March 30 Spring April 1 to June 22 Payments are due in advance of each session. Summer fees are charged separately. Students taking two or more lessons per week have the option of making monthly installments which are due the beginning of each month. Students taking one class per week pay the full session fee. Note that the monthly installment remains the same each month regardless of holidays so that in some months there may be five weeks or there may be two or three. There are no refunds or credits for missed classes. In the event that your teacher needs to cancel, a make-up class will be scheduled. Tuition fees do not include recital, costume, workshop, extra exam classes, exam fees, or master classes. All fees must be paid in advance. Conferences: Teachers are available for conferences at times other than between classes. If you have questions or concerns, we would be happy to schedule an office or phone conference. Supervision: Young children must be supervised when entering and leaving the studio. Parents are asked to pick up children promptly after class. Parking: Parking is available on First Street, Harvard Avenue and College Avenue. There is no parking in front or the side of the studio. These spots are designated for Pomona College employees and Sonia Stump Photography studio employees only.

Order at www.characterskirt.com or pick up an order form in the office. **Character shoes may be purchased through VDA. Ballet: Hair must be in a bun for every ballet class. Short hair must be pulled away from the face. Students will be sent out of class to fix their hair appropriately. Parents, please ensure your dancer is prepared for class. Bobby pins and nets are available in the office for purchase. No jewelry, warmups, shorts, or rolled-up tights are allowed in ballet class. Dress code skirts are only allowed at the Primary and Advanced levels. Jazz: Leotard, black jazz shorts or pants, and black jazz shoes. Tan jazz shoes required for Intermediate Teen and Advanced jazz. Tap: Leotard, black dance shorts/pants, and full-sole tap shoes. No jeans or street clothes. Modern: Leotard, footless or convertible tights, or dance shorts/pants. Tumbling: Leotards, dance pants, tank tops, or t-shirts, no shoes. Hip Hop: Dance pants, tank tops, t-shirts. Clean sneakers. Adult Classes: Comfortable clothes to move in, including leotards, dance pants, tank tops, or t-shirts. Ballet or tap shoes as appropriate.
