Empowering amputees in life through sport Get STARTed Fundraising Kit

PERTH TO BROOME RIDE 18 MAY 17 JUNE, 2018 Thank you for supporting the Perth to Broome Ride to raise $50,000 towards the START Foundation Grant Program, which assists amputees to achieve their sporting dreams. START Foundation was established in 2013 through the inspiration of Kerryn Harvey, who became an amputee after a cycling accident. Kerryn immediately understood the challenges faced by amputees and recognised sport as a tremendous way to integrate back into the community. Kerryn will be riding from Perth to Broome in May 2018 on the back of a tandem bike, along with a team of supporting cyclists, to raise awareness and funds. I encourage everyone to join START Foundation in the fundraising campaign through this ride so we may all have a positive impact on the life of an amputee. Kerryn Harvey Every $15,000 raised will allow START to award a grant to an amputee to purchase a prosthetic limb or have equipment modified so they can achieve their sporting dream. The appreciation and gratitude I have for START for literally giving me a start is beyond words. It has been an absolute game changer for my life, so thank you! Liam Twomey - Grant Recipient Let's empower amputees in life through sport together!

GET INVOLVED Join us on the Ride! The Perth to Broome Ride covers 3,315 gruelling kms from 18 May 17 June 2018. Led by amputee, and founder of START, Kerryn Harvey, a group of over 30 cyclists will tackle the heat and the distance, to raise funds for the Foundation. To join Kerryn on the 3,315km ride in 2018, please contact All Trails on 03 9802 4465. Join us in a Virtual Challenge! If you are unable to join us for the Perth to Broome Ride, we invite you to participate in the event in your own way, in your own community! Set your own challenge of 3,135. It may be a fundraising target of $3,135 or choose your own activity such as running, walking, riding, paddling or swimming. You may wish to count the number of laps completed by your swimming group in a month. Achieve your challenge individually or as part of a team. It is entirely up to you to set the activity and goal. Be creative and get all your family, friends and colleagues involved! Next steps 1. Set up your Supporter &/or Team page 2. State if you are on the Ride or have created a Virtual Challenge 3. FUNDRAISING TIPS 1. Add a photo of yourself or your event to your supporter page to make more personal. 2. Don t set your fundraising target too low be bold and optimistic. 3. Email your close friends and family first they are the most likely to kickstart your fundraising. 4. Once you have some generous donations on your page, next email acquaintances and colleagues, local businesses and broader members of the community. 5. Use email for direct requests for support. Group emails are easy to ignore, so make sure every email is addressed personally. 6. Use social media to let everyone know what you re doing. 7. In all your communications, let everyone know what you re raising the money for, ie, Every $15,000 enables START Foundation to award a grant to an amputee for a sports specific prosthetic limb or equipment modification. Through the grant program, more amputees will be one step closer to living a more fulfilling life and that s something I am immensely proud of. Kelly Cartwright Ambassador START Foundation s Ambassador, Kelly Cartwright, with grant recipient Luca
