Medicare Advantage Value Based Care: The importance of annual planned visits, closing gaps in care, and documenting the burden of illness Julie Mann, Anthem Medicare Advantage Provider Network Manager II Summary: The Medicare Advantage (MA) annual planned visit provides great opportunities to help in shifting current strategies and operations from a reactive approach to a proactive approach in managing patients and their needs. The demand for value-based care is encouraging providers to adopt a completely different technique in delivering care to their population. An annual planned physical allows the provider the opportunity to screen, assess and conduct a physical exam on their MA patients in order to collect data on medical, psychosocial, functional capabilities, and limitations of this population.
