Schwarzman Scholarship Advising Timeline, Summer-Fall 2017 Advising and Submission Instructions: Please print and read this carefully. All Princeton undergraduates applying to the Schwarzman Scholarship, as well those alumni seeking advising with their Schwarzman applications, must register as a Schwarzman applicant on the GPS site (http://gps.princeton.edu) by July 25, 2017. If you are a current Princeton undergraduate and are planning to request a campus endorsement (a requirement to apply as a senior), you must sign and submit/upload the intention to apply form (below), along with a signed copy of your release and disclosure form by July 25, 2017. If you are an alumnus and would like us to review your completed draft prior to August 5 th, you must let us know about your intention by signing and uploading the second form (for alumni) below by July 25, 2017. Once you have graduated from Princeton University, you must apply to the Schwarzman Scholarship as an independent applicant without a campus endorsement. We will be available, however, to review a complete draft if you meet these deadlines. We strongly urge you to avail of a preliminary review of your 500-word policy statement. Dr. Deirdre Moloney will arrange that if you send an email fellow@princeton.edu with that request by July 25th. Your policy essay need not be on a China-focused topic, but you should make clear how it would be relevant to what you would learn on a Schwarzman Scholarship. Please make sure that the scope of your essay is sufficiently focused for this brief statement. Including the policy topic that you have selected to write on in the email is helpful. Between July 25 th and August 15 th you must submit a draft of your essays (in one Word file attachment named (YourLastNameFirstInitialDraft#, e.g. JonesE1) for review by Professor Janet Chen through the GPS system. She will discuss her comments with you by email or phone. If you are an alumnus of Princeton and wish us to review your essays, you must also submit them within this time frame. Seniors must submit all their application materials (essays and completed application, official transcript, resume, and letters of recommendation) in PDF form by the campus endorsement deadline to be eligible for campus endorsement.
Please note: Do not request that your letter writers upload their letters to the Schwarzman Scholarship application site until we confirm that the letters are ready for final submission on September 28, 2017. Seniors who submit applications for campus endorsement by the September 10 th deadline will be notified by September 12, 2017 about whether your application has been endorsed. Before you finalize and submit your materials on the Schwarzman Scholarship online application, plan on meeting with Professor Chen in her office (or by phone if you are an alumnus) between September 18-22, 2017 to review any final revisions she might suggest. She will also review your video and provide feedback. She will ask you to schedule that appointment on a Wass calendar. You are responsible for meeting the national September 28, 2017 Schwarzman application deadline. Do not wait until the day of the deadline to submit and request that your letter writers submit their letters on the Schwarzman application site by September 26 th. You must update and upload all your final application materials (except the recommendation letters) though GPS. If you are invited for an interview with the Schwarzman selection committee, we will require your application materials for a practice interview. You must let us know whether you will be available to be present for a practice interview in November when you submit the copy of your final application.
