ACTIONS FROM PREVIOUS MEETING Improvement of First Buses - Cost of bus pass has increase from 149 to 155, however with an NUS Extra card then the cost for the first two weeks is 145. - Bus routes and consistency is an ongoing process. is going to opening discussions with the bus company. Reduce the Printing Costs

- The SU has won an AIWIP printer. Currently discussing legalities and costs of installing. Languages for all - Following up with the University this and next week, will update at next meeting. Anti-Plagiarism Checker - University is looking into this and will have a meeting in the first term. - has been invited to lead on the plagiarism checker. Reduce the rents at Essex - Rents for this academic year have been agreed. - The Uni will invite SU to all meetings to discuss rents for 17/18. - Important to research how much money students have to live on. - Meeting will take place in September. Slide not Stride - Discussed with Health & Safety. Unfortunately this is not possible due to risks involved. Improved wheelchair access to multi-faith chaplaincy - JR has a meeting with the mule-faith chaplaincy at 4pm. Will feedback at the next meeting. Reduce the cost of laundry - Currently tied into a long term deal with the service provider. - Waiting for a response from Health and Human Sciences. Improve the Silberad Centre - No update meeting to be scheduled. DJ nights at Sub Zero - Had a meeting with the venues team. - Tried this a few years ago but had a bad experience. - Looking at putting this in level up - Creative Studios are interested in putting on a workshop. More jobs in library - Not immediately going to hire students due to changes being made to make current staff more student facing. If the library finds themselves short staffed then they ll look into hiring students first. - Student ambassadors are doing all the tours in the Library. Exam Resist Fees - to meet with Promise 1 next week. Room Bookings - No update Keep our email after graduation JR JR JR/SA SM

- Uni not keen as majority of sector doesn t do this. 38% of institutions offer this service with 40% of those no longer wanting to offer it. - In conversation with University about enabling email accounts to be active for up to 1 year after graduation. Currently with the ICT Steering Group. Exec Clothing and Lanyards - Email about it asap. TWO MINUTE UPDATE SW Raising awareness of female disease. Working with femsoc to try and cooperate more with them. Planning on having student network meetings. JB Trying to make sure that there is events in place for the start of the new term and to cover the gap between JB leaving Essex and the new PG Officers. Recommends that PGR is elected in February rather than October. would like to be involved with PG s. EH Research other Uni/Union s regarding swap shop space. Planning on delivering a worksop on food waste. She asks for volunteers to test.,, JR and SW agree to test. Met with to talk about local products and NUS Green Impact. Asks if exec hoodies are ethically resourced. mentions that this is one of the requirements. says all clubs and societies hoodies will be. / JR/SW JR Have started Just Meet Student parents with a student parent. Met with ilovetour and raised concerns from last year. SM involved and helping to take forward. Working on mental health train the trainer. SA Currently planning mid-autumn festival in September. Planning one World Essex Meeting Colchester Mayor next week Working with EN to create ISA Southend. Working on scrapping hard copy submission. Two departments have scrapped. Library s stance is to have electronic dissertations now. Looking at an exam campaign celebration for PG s for when they have to hand in their dissertations. Scheduled for around September 12 th. JB mentions that plenty of students will be leaving campus around the 9 th /10 th. Engaging with PG s on the PG tool kit. Diversity day is happening. Met with careers and it could be turned into a weekend event.

The new store is coming along. Met with Creative Studios about their strategy and what a success would look like at the end of the year. Fresher s Fortnight will have a diverse music range. New name for Level Up is being discussed. Discussions regarding the wallpaper party are ongoing. Working on calendar of events with the admin team. Working with SA and JR to collaborate with the University to have a massive community cohesion campaign that the VC has challenged the working group to get national recognition. would want the exec to be involved. CS recommends that speaks to Citizens UK. Tasks everyone to look at what budget they may need for campaigns and events for the year. SHARING OF INFORMATION asks the exec to keep relevant people involved as others could be working on similar issues and projects. This is to ensure there are no mix messages and everyone is in the loop. Communication needs to be good. HOUSEWARMING provides an update on the plans for housewarming which takes place on September 15. will work with marketing on the presentation. SOCIAL MEDIA SA 1,800 people have now joined the fresher s page on Facebook. On twitter there will be sabb profiles released. Next week there will be posts counting down to results day. SA and will be meeting with the creator of the other Fresher s page. Filming on keeping up with the Sabbaticals will take place this week. Target to reach 2,000 members of the Facebook page. EAST 15 LEADERSHIP RACE GR Executive Committee unanimously approve the dates proposed for the East 15 Leadership Race. THE TEACHING EXCELLENCE FRAMEWORK explains the purpose of TEF and mentions that it is highly likely that tuition fees will increase for UG students. Proposes that the Union could have an official stance on the TEF but warns that if Essex doesn t do the TED then the Uni will be competitively placed out of the market. The TEF links to NSS and there is currently proposals on a national level for

SU s to encourage a boycott of the NSS NATIONAL DEMOSTRATION The National Union of Students will be holding a National Demonstration on Nov 19 to campaign against any fees for HE. This is a joint demo alongside UCU. The NUS is looking for support from Union s and is promotion it is an Anti-Rising Fee event. asks the executive if the Executive should support or not. CS recommends that the executive doesn t take a position but gather views of members. The exec discussed the outcomes of whether to take a position or not. believes that the demo doesn t have a clear end result. wants to represent the student body. There is a consensus that some students would expect the SU to provide transport. GR advises the exec on the referendum held in March with passed. tasks the exec to speak to members about. ALL JB believes that the NUS is out of touch with the representation of students. YEAR PLANS would like the exec to start mapping out the key dates for this year. Currently working with EN on an entrepreneurial campaign which will take place in the second week of November as it ties in with Global Entrepreneurial Week. SA wants to be on board. EH has been speaking to people and Planet about a divestment campaign on October 17 th. SA is looking at doing a multilingualism campaign in November. and SA will be starting on the community cohesion campaign in September. Recommended to try to tie in with Diversity Day on February 17 th. SW is looking to celebrate National Period Day in February to work with FemSoc. mentions that the exam campaign will run all year round as members have deadlines and exams at different points. AOB

GR raises Executive Officer Question Time and asks Officers to shape how it looks. It was agreed to try multiple opinions to encourage engagement including streaming on Facebook live and using our facilities such as the SU Bar. Meeting with take place on the second Tuesday or Thursday of every month at 6pm.
