Registration is open until one week prior to the start of classes. Registration times are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 2. Registration for short-term classes may be done in person, by mail, or by fax. Applicants must complete a registration form and mail with check or money order payable to: SCTC, or visit the Somerset County Technology Center located at 281 Technology Drive, Somerset, PA 15501. Forms may be requested by calling (814) 443-3651. Mail-in forms should be directed to the attention of the Adult Education Office. You can fax your registration form if payment is by MasterCard, VISA, Discover, or agency billing. Fax cannot be used when paying by check. If a company is paying the course fee and/or text cost, they must submit a letter on company letterhead specifying the cost items which the company agrees to pay. Policies 1. Individuals eligible for enrollment in evening classes include adults age 18 or over that have the ability to profit from the instruction. 2. Individuals applying for intergenerational and CDL programs must have attained a high school diploma or GED. 3. Prices listed are for tuition only unless otherwise noted. Some courses have additional costs for books and/or materials. 4. All listed courses will be offered if a minimum of six (6) individuals enroll and if a qualified instructor is available. Otherwise, the course is subject to cancellation. 5. All registrants should report for their first scheduled class unless otherwise notified. 6. Only individuals who have enrolled in a course that has been cancelled will be notified. 7. All courses are scheduled to begin as specified. 8. There are no tuition refunds once classes begin. 9. Course day and hours are subject to change. Classes are not scheduled on school holidays and may be cancelled due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. 9. Smoking, chewing, and the possession of tobacco, look alike substances, and/or paraphernalia are prohibited in school buildings, school buses, or on school property. Use of tobacco is also prohibited in cars parked on school property. 10. As defined in Act 26 of 1995, no weapons, firearms, or replicas of weapons are permitted on school property. 11. Electric/Gas Metal Arc Welding Learn arc welding methods to strike an arc, run a weld bead, and perform surface and fillet welds at various positions. Gas welding will include techniques in MIG and TIG welding. Course will cover theory of welding technology, blueprint reading, as well as practical hands on application. Prepare for AWS vertical plate weld certification. Course also provides instruction in detailed blueprint reading, including weld symbols and sizing/dimensioning welds. Those who pass will receive their Auto Inspectors License for all categories taken and passed. ServSafe The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requires that every food service operation obtain a nationally recognized food protection certificate such as ServSafe. To receive and maintain certification, all individuals are required to pass a certification exam every five years. After attending the classes and passing the test with a score of 75% or higher, participants will receive a ServSafe certificate. This class will use the ServSafe 7th edition updated with the 2013 FDA Food Code. (attend 2nd class only) COST: $180 for certification (textbook included) $130 for re-certification (textbook included) $50 for re-tests Excel 2013 This five-week course is designed for those who wish to learn the fundamental operations of Excel 2013. Excel is part of Microsoft Office and has become one of the most-used software programs since its launch in 1985. Excel is a spreadsheet application that uses mathematical calculations and formulas to store, organize, and manage numbers and records. Wood-Working / Cabinet Making A wonderful opportunity for the do-it-yourselfer. You don t have to have a complete workshop and years of experience to design and create. These interactive, hands-on classes will teach you to identify and use basic carpentry tools. You will be responsible for cutting and shaping the wood, preparing surfaces, and forming a completed project. COST: $225 + supplies OSHA Training - 10 Hour Construction Training for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, reduction, and prevention of safety and health hazards. Become familiar with information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. This training helps to ensure that workers are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED & First Aid Classes This course is designed to prepare you to provide First Aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Will receive a TWO-YEAR CERTIFICATION DAY & TIME: Thursday 3:00-9:00 p.m. DATE: April 5, 2018 LENGTH: 6 hours COST: $80 School of Practical Nursing A Practical Nurse (LPN) is an integral part of the health care team who works with physicians and registered nurses to provide skilled care and comfort to patients. The Practical Nursing program at SCTC provides an opportunity for students to start their health care career by completing a 52-week academic program with 4 recess weeks. Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday Friday. Clinical will be daylight and evening rotations. The program is divided into four (4) levels each lasting approximately 12 weeks. Total program hours are 1550 with 645 theory hours and 905 clinical hours. Level 1: Fundamentals of Nursing, Body and Function, Nutrition, Math for Meds Level 2: Pharmacology, Maternal - Child Health Nursing, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Intro to Medical/Surgical Nursing Level 3: Medical/Surgical Nursing I, Personal and Vocational Relationships Level 4: Medical/Surgical Nursing II, Leadership Clinicals at the Somerset location will be held at Conemaugh Hospital, Somerset Hospital, Meadowview Nursing Home, Laurel View Village, and The Patriot. Clinicals at the Bedford location will be held at Penn Knoll Village, UPMC Altoona, UPMC Bedford, and Donahue Manor. Students will have specialty rotations to different medical facilities outside a hospital: John P. Murtha Neuro Pain Center, The Advanced Wound Care Center, Home Nursing Agency, Pennwood Family Medicine, In-Touch Hospice, and Interim Home Heath. There is a $110 application fee that includes the entrance exam. After you submit your application, please call the LPN office and register to take the TEAS entrance exam. Earn a Technical Career in One Year! Intergenerational Training Programs Adults may take advantage of occupational training programs during regular day school hours (8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.). All career training programs are competency based and allow students to progress at their own pace. Most programs consist of two semesters of training totaling 1,000 hours. The cost is $8,000 for most programs. Most programs are on the state-approved provider list and qualify for financial aid. Enrollment is open entry, and students are accepted in January and August. Cross training options are available in various disciplines. $8,000 Programs AUTOMOTIVE BODY TECHNOLOGY - The course includes training in the latest procedures, products and tools approved by I-Car for the collision repair industry including S/P2 Safety. Students will begin with basic panel preparation and advance to ultrasonic damage diagnosis on the Shark II system. In addition, students will learn refinishing procedures and custom painting using both conventional and water-based paints. Welding instruction will include both steel and aluminum MIG welding.
