December 16, 2017 CPhA Awards Committee Attn: Awards Manager 4030 Lennane Drive Sacramento, CA 95834 Dear CPhA Awards Committee: Debby Scollins, (now Johnson) was born into pharmacy. Her family s pharmacy was part of her experience growing up in Massachusetts. She came to California to visit a friend and fell in love with our beautiful state. She started as an employee with Thrifty Drug stores, rising to recruiter on the managerial side. Later on, she worked at California Pharmacy for ten years, then retired after 5 years at Ralph s. She served on the OCPhA Board in various positions, rising to a very energetic president in the early 1990s. Meanwhile at the state level, she served on the Board of Trustees, was elected Speaker of the House, then ran for President elect, winning that she served as CPhA President. And she has served as a mentor for pharmacy students for many years. All the while she remained active at the local level in OCPhA as well as working at the grassroots level for local candidates in her Garden Grove district. She volunteers and has trained for Emergency Disasters in Orange County. She has been a very diligent supervisor and caring worker for the Pharmacy Museum in Sacramento. If you call her mobile phone number, you will hear very detailed instructions for those who wish to tour the museum. And she travels to collect and care for donations of pharmacy relics donated to the museum. Debby is always friendly, always a great ambassador for the profession. Sincerely, Sylvia Moore, PharmD Email: Sylvia4Rx@gmail.com OCPhA Board Member Staff Pharmacist at B&B Village Pharmacy

California Pharmacists Association Sacramento, California January 14, 2018 RE: Hygiea Award Nominations I am recommending Debby Johnson for the 2018 Bowl of Hygeia Award of the California Pharmacists Association. I have known Debby Johnson for over thirty years. During that time she has been the epitome of what a great pharmacist should be, and what the community is looking for in a pharmacist. I first met Debby when I was a pharmacy student. She recruited me, convincing me of the reasons to become a member of the California Pharmacists Association. Debby has served in almost every office in CPhA, including serving as our President. Regardless of the office in which she served, she always incorporated outreach to student pharmacists and new practitioners, educating them as to why they would receive more satisfaction in their profession as an active member of the California Pharmacists Association. After serving as our President, she has continued in this effort by working in the Membership Office of the CPhA; educating the public; and serving as the driving force behind the California Pharmacy Museum. Debby has been extremely active in her local association, the Orange County Pharmacists Association, where she has served in all offices, including President. During her tenure with the OCPhA she has spearheaded many outreach programs, such as brown bag sessions, educating seniors, and active outreach to student pharmacists. Debby has continued to educate the public, student pharmacists, and new practitioners, always sharing her love of practicing pharmacy in the community setting. Debby is truly a leader in our profession, with an unbounded love for the profession of pharmacy, which she has generously shared with the Association, fellow pharmacists, student pharmacists, new practitioners, and the community. I can think of no one in our profession who has represented our profession better, or is more deserving of this reward. Sincerely, X Clarence L. Lloyd, Pharm.D.

Chris Salvatori, Pharm.D. USC 93 CPhA member 1993-present Museum Board Member 2000-present (562) 889-8571 Csalvatori51@gmail.com 1/13/18 Bowl of Hygeia Award nominee letter of recommendation Dear Elaine, I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Debby Johnson for recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award. I have known Debby for the past twenty years as a colleague and friend through our work at CPhA. I have always found Debby to have a cheerful attitude, while being dependable, hard-working, and willing to participate in difficult projects, tasks, and committees to help further the profession of Pharmacy. Her exceptional skills have been impressive, particularly as President of CPhA, her countless committee appointments in CPhA, as well as being recognized as a well-respected Pharmacist in her community. Much of my recent experience with Debby has been working with the Don and June Salvatori California Pharmacy Museum (located at the CPhA headquarters in Sacramento). Debby has volunteered countless hours to the development and establishment of an extraordinary California history of Pharmacy Museum. There is no other Pharmacy Museum like it in California. Debby has collected and cataloged hundreds of Pharmacy artifacts for the Museum s displays as well as documenting oral and written histories of pharmacists and pharmacies which have shaped the profession of Pharmacy in California since its inception in 1850. Debby continues her volunteer work for the Museum with the tours she gives for elementary schools, pharmacy technician groups, senior groups, and history buffs. She has established the Museum with other local museums in the Sacramento area, bringing it to the forefront of must see museums. She continues to organize and participate in Museum Day every February, a free admission day for the public to visit local museums. She coordinates the Wine tasting and silent auction event at CPhA exchange every year, a charitable function to support the Museum. It has been my privilege to know and work with this passionate and dedicated Pharmacist, whom has given so much of her time through volunteer work to promote and advance the profession. I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Debby Johnson. Please feel free to contact me if I can further assist you in your consideration of Debby for the Bowl of Hygeia Award. Thank you. Sincerely, Chris Salvatori

Recommendation for the California Bowl of Hygeia To whom this may concern Almost 30 years ago, I met Debby Scollins Johnson at a meeting. She explained to the audience the importance of membership with the Pharmacy Professional Associations while practicing Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Professional Association is the Heart and Spirit of the profession. Being a member when practicing keep us up with the knowledge while keeping the profession alive and moving it forward. What I learned from the meeting made a lot of sense to me. I became a member of CPhA and APhA. I feel stronger when practicing and I am pretty well loved by my patients. Debby is always willing to help us out with advices, and when necessary, she will get involved. That is how we successfully organized the two 6hours of continuing education for pharmacists in Orange County with the financial support from manufacturers. For me Debby is one of the pharmacist leaders in California whose work and leadership are contributing to the exceptionaly advanced profession of Pharmacy. In 1999, I have the opportunity to meet French pharmacists in Chateau de Noyon, organized by my sister at her residence. The information that I learned from the meeting did not make me feel good at all. I wrote an article on the Orange Extract when I came back from the trip but I did not have the heart to "tell all". At that time, in 1999, after 7 years of University, French pharmacists make less money than our US pharmacy technicians. One example of their professional practice is that they are not allowed to do anything other than "count and poor", EXACTLY as prescribed by MDs, including generic drugs, they have to respect the manufacturers as indicated on the prescription!!! For me, the US is a wonderful country, always fair and thoughtful to the citizens, but at the same time powerful, intelligent, always moving the country forward in all fields. When applied to the Pharmacy field, we have people like Debby Johnson as an example of our country spirit. Debby is always ready to help us move the Pharmacy Profession forwards. It is wonderful to have met and known her and being helped by herself. Please vote for her for the BOWL of HYGEIA. THANK YOU, My Thi Bui

January 18, 2018 Dear CPhA Awards Committee, I am writing to support the nomination of Debby Johnson for the Bowl of Hygeia. I met Debby nearly 20 years ago when I was the community pharmacy clerkship coordinator at the USC School of Pharmacy. She has been a preceptor for countless student pharmacist over the years, ushering them in to the profession she loves. I ve always been struck by Debby combination of a calm, warm demeanor and her impassioned support and defense of the pharmacy profession. Even though she s not from California, Debby s made quite an indelible mark on the leadership and practice in our state over the many years she s been in practice here. As a full-time working pharmacist, she took on the role as one of the few female presidents CPhA has had. From patients and student pharmacists to legislators and pharmacist colleagues, Debby Johnson s legacy is embedded in all. For most, they d call it a career, and a successful one at that, but Debby is still actively involved, advocating for our profession both on the local and state level. I consider myself fortunate to call Debby Johnson a friend and colleague. Having her name on the Bowl of Hygeia would continue the long history of impressive, impactful individuals. I highly recommend Debby Johnson for the Bowl of Hygeia Award.
