2011 Season Mocksville American Senior Legion Baseball coaching staff Charles Kurfees is entering his second year as head coach of the Senior Legion team. Charles played football and baseball at Davie County High School earning all conference in 1985. Charles played on the Mocksville American Legion team from 1985-6, then semi-pro in Winston-Salem. He attended Mitchell College. Charles led the Junior Legion team to the 2004 and 2007 state tournaments and has a Junior Legion 6-year record of 133-58. Charles has served on the board of directors of the Legion program, assisted at DCHS and South Davie Jr. High. Todd Bumgarner is the eighth-year assistant of the Senior Legion team. He played three sports graduated from West Rowan High School then graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Physical Education. Todd currently teaches at South Davie Jr. High in Mocksville. He has coached football for the last 10 years and served as the 2009 head J.V. football coach for Davie County. He is currently the assistant baseball coach at DCHS. Mocksville American Junior Legion Baseball coaching staff Joel Brizek is entering his second year as head coach of the Junior Legion team. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, he took over the coaching positing of the Exeter Junior Legion. He coached there for 14 years then an additional five years at West Lawn Junior Legion compiling a record of 396 wins and 174 losses over 19 years. Along with coaching, he continued to play in adult baseball leagues in the area winning five league titles in eight years. After moving to Davie County, he spent one year coaching Mocksville Junior Legion on Charles Kurfees staff before taking over as head coach last year, compiling a league record of 11-7. Dan Lawlor is entering his first year as assistant coach of the Junior Legion team. Dan began his coaching career over 30 years ago working at Ted Williams Baseball Camp while playing collegiate summer ball. Over the past 30 years he has been involved in coaching youth athletics in areas from New Jersey to North Carolina. Dan coached Junior Legion teams in Raleigh and then came to the Mocksville staff this past fall. Larry Anderson is entering his 1st year as assistant coach of the Junior Legion team. Larry has helped coach the Mocksville Fall Baseball program the past three years and has served in many capacities for the Davie County Little League Baseball Program.
