Safe Patient Handling Team Meeting Date: Friday, March 30, 2012 Location: Conference Center A Time: 11a-12p MINUTES See last page for Attendance TOPIC DISCUSSION ACTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS Attendance Progress of policy development Those who do not attend the meeting will be marked as absent, unless excused prior to the meeting. Continue to work on policy development. Certain areas of the policy still need to be clarified. Algorithms need to be typed and the policy when need to be approved when complete. Algorithms will be typed and complete by the next meeting. The education sessions will still take place in May and will not be pushed back due to difficulty in securing rooms. The dates are Friday May 4, Saturday May 5, and Monday, May 7. Clinicians will work with PT to create addendums (equipment and algorithms). In Progress K. Fowler will work with A. Kalafut, K. Klamut, and D. Crisi-Couchenour to create the first part to the policy. DONE J. Tinelli suggested that Ryan Witt video tape the first day of education and will contact him about this. It was determined that Gait Belts are best practice and J. Tinelli will check on the cost of them and possibly bring samples to the next meeting. K. Fowler and A. Kalafut attended the Passavant Safe Patient Handling meeting. Their group has been working for about one year. They have purchased 13 lifts and 2 Bariatric lifts (they are not Zuma). A. Kalafut and J. Sharer to possibly attend a back safety class.

Survey Monkey completed 3/6/12 314 responses. See March 16 minutes for details. Determine specific education objectives and who is best to man those areas. Increase staff awareness on available policy and procedures (reference materials for patient transfers. Incorporate reference material into the training program. As above. Create an in depth training program for: SMART champions Clinicians Educators Unit Directors Therapists Critical Positioning Team Members Group Training for Critical Positioning team with annual competencies. While developing education criteria for whole house-will develop specific training for Critical Positioning team.

Implement a policy and procedure for cleaning slings and documentation of cleaning Lisa Lehman/6A designee Will review the 6A process and create a policy/procedure. Obtain 1-2 mechanical lifts with storage in proximity to high use areas. Kathy Fowler Zuma will be available at the end of February: need to determine how we will implement this equipment for trial period. Either through the critical positioning team and encourage the staff to call for critical positioning team or stationed in specific areas for evaluation. Obtained quite for future purchase with an expected discount. Beginning quote $9,400.

IMCU- 2 reclining chairs, mechanical lift, and wheeled walkers. ICU- One stretch chair- explore potential for ceiling lifts (new construction). Obtain SLIPP sheets for all units to reduce friction and required force. Kathy Fowler/ Kim Klamut Gina Koch Will evaluate the Zuma with care extractor arm. Will address in the May education/training Explored this but the need for wall reinforcement and large scale construction prohibits this from happening. Addressed with the Zuma Currently trialing 2 Barton chairs in house and obtained quotes for purchase cost $7500 each. SLIPP sheets trialed on 6B through the system VAT committee and we will go whole house with this product: Need start date and planned education.
