P L A T F O R M U P D A T E S December 22, 2017 We ve made some exciting enhancements to Lippincott DocuCare for the Spring 2018 semester! These updates will be available when you access your DocuCare account beginning the week of January 2, 2018. You ll find a new Provider Review of Systems screen under Admission Assessment, as well as a new drop-down option for Documented At on the Notes tab. We ve also changed the location of the Homan s fields on the Postpartum tab for Maternity cases (to make the data fields more visible and easy to find), and made Notes content visible to students on the Previous Visits tab. We ve also relocated the Immunizations tab to the Patient Info screen (to enable DocuCare to function more like real-world EHRs). Finally, we ve added new Mental Health cases to the pre-populated library on the My Case Library tab and added new Active Learning Packets for instructors to use when teaching with DocuCare. Provider Review of Systems Instructors can now document patient information from the provider s perspective, as it relates to constitutional data (e.g., fever, weight loss), as well as HEENT, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Musculoskeletal, Integumentary, Neurological, Psychiatric, Endocrine, Hematologic/Lymphatic, and Allergic/Immunologic assessments, as well as additional notes. Additionally, providers (medical students, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) will be able to document review of systems information when taking part in inter-professional learning activities such as simulations. The data inputted on the Provider Review of Systems screens provides a way for students to see a provider s assessment/impressions of the patient s status to help guide their care. Instructor Experience Instructor In the selected patient chart, the Accesses the Instructor will navigate to the Provider Review Patient Info tab and then select of Systems subtab Then, the Instructor selects the Admission Assessment tab. Provider Review Of Systems subtab. On the Provider Review Of Systems sub-tab, the Instructor can document the following data: o Constitutional (e.g., fever, weight loss), HEENT, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Musculoskeletal, Integumentary (skin and/or breast), Neurological, Psychiatric, Endocrine, Hematologic/Lymphatic, Allergic/Immunologic, Additional Notes Then, the Instructor selects the Save button to retain the inputted data in the chart. When the Instructor first accesses the sub-tab: After the Instructor has saved data on the sub-tab: Student Experience Student accesses the new Provider Review of Systems sub-tab. When the Student accesses an assigned case/patient scenario, he/she can navigate to the new Provider Review of Systems sub-tab and view the data that the Instructor has inputted.
New Documented At options on Notes tab In response to customer feedback (and to aid our continued efforts to match real-world HER functionality), Lippincott DocuCare has incorporated a new Before Admission drop-down option on the menu for Documented At for the Notes tab. This new option allows instructors to add narrative information that occurs prior to the patient s admission, providing more context to students and fostering their critical thinking skills as they are charting their care of the patient in the assigned case. Instructor Experience Instructor selects Before Admission on the Documented At menu for the Notes tab In the selected patient chart, navigate to the Notes Info tab and then select the dropdown menu for Documented At. Then, select the Before Admission. Fill out all other required data fields and select the Save button. Student Experience Student selects the new Respiratory Therapy menu and inputs data. When the Student accesses an assigned case/patient scenario, he/she can navigate to the Notes tab and view the before admission data that the Instructor has saved regarding the patient. Location of Homan s data fields in Maternity cases In Maternity cases in Lippincott DocuCare (specifically, the Postpartum tab), the list and check boxes associated with the Homan s content will now appear under Lower Extremities rather than the Rectum section, so that the content fields fall under the appropriate body system (more closely mirroring real-world EHRs).. Visibility of Previous Visit Notes to Students When a student now accesses the Previous Visits tab in Lippincott DocuCare, he/she will be able to view the note that the instructor saved in the chart, including the diagnosis, location, notes, and admission and discharge times, allowing the student to take that information into consideration when documenting their care of the patient in the assigned chart.
New location for Immunizations tab As a continuation of our efforts to improve the usability of Lippincott DocuCare, customers will now see that the Immunizations tab (which previously appeared on the main level, equal to Patient Info ) has been moved to the Patient Info sub-tab, so that DocuCare more closely replicates the real EHR experience, in which that data is charted along with other patient information. Mental Health Cases Available the week of January 2 nd, 2018, instructors will have access to 10 new Mental Health cases, representing patients from vsim for Mental Health (released in 2017), in the pre-populated case library on the My Case Library tab: Mental Health: vsim, Adjustment Disorder with Depressed Mood: George Palo Mental Health: vsim, Alcohol Withdrawal: Andrew Davis Mental Health: vsim, Bipolar Disorder: Sharon Cole Mental Health, vsim, Borderline Personality Disorder: Sandra Littlefield Mental Health, vsim, Major Depressive Disorder: Li Na Chen (Part 1) Mental Health, vsim, Major Depressive Disorder: Li Na Chen (Part 2) Mental Health, vsim, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder & Traumatic Brain Injury: Randy Adams Mental Health, vsim, Schizophrenia: David Carter (Part 1) Mental Health, vsim, Schizophrenia: David Carter (Part 2) Mental Health, vsim, Severe Anxiety: Linda Waterfall Learning Activity Packets Beginning the week of January 8 th, 2018, 20 new Active Learning Packets, selected to match unfolding patient stories in key titles, will be deployed to DocuCare in support of instructors efforts to integrate DocuCare into their courses. Each learning packet corresponds to a specific case in DocuCare and offers ready-to-use activities specific to a particular educational environment (the classroom, a skills lab, online, or during clinical and/or simulation). These new learning packets expand the scope of DocuCare s instructor resources, so that instructors are no longer limited to using the packets only in the simulation setting, nor are instructors constrained in terms of what they ask students to complete regarding actual patient charting. Additional new learning activities will be added in 2018. Instructors can access the new learning packets by navigating to the DocuCare page on thepoint (http://thepoint.lww.com/book/show/247900) and then selecting the Learning Activities link on the Instructor Resources tab (see screenshot below). Then, instructors can explore each course area to access the new learning activities, the titles for which will begin with NEW! for ease-in-finding.
