I. Background The USA Work and Travel Program is a cultural exchange program sponsored by the United States. This program is available for college students, and provides them an opportunity to have a cultural experience in the U.S. while having work opportunities to subsidize their stay. Participants have the opportunity to acquire jobs that do not require highly special knowledge or skills while staying in the United States for a maximum of four months. At the end of the work program, students may remain in the U.S. for another 25 days for travel and entertainment purposes. In this way, participants are able to cover living expenses while spending their summer in the U.S. becoming familiar with American culture, meeting new people from other cultures and sharing their own culture with other people as well. They are given an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills and gain rich experiences they can bring back home. The season 2018 is the second year of partnership between Centro Escolar University - Malolos and UTP Beyond Borders. FIRST PARTY (UTP BEYOND BORDERS) OBLIGATIONS TO SECOND PARTY (CEU-Malolos) 1. Initiate, communicate, and facilitate confirmation of Academe Presentation, Schedule Presentation and/or Orientation whichever apply/(ies) to the Second Party in relation to the current programs being offered by First Party and later conduct such to the students of the former at a designated venue, time within their premises. 2. Accept and entertain interested students of the Second Party to gauge their qualifications to the programs applicable to them through First Party s Router System and Program Specialist s Interview. A list of qualified applicants who passed the standards of the First Party will be provided to the Second Party. 3. Supply quantifiable marketing materials and relevant information to the Second Party in promoting its programs to the College/University students. Booth stand display as the need arise, will be provided. DONE. Orientation for Batch 2018 was conducted last June 2017. Around 53 students attended the orientation. DONE. Out of those who attended the orientation, at least 45 students inquired about Work and Travel Program and at least 29 were qualified to proceed with the initial application. DONE. All orientation attendees received relevant and hard-working marketing materials produced particularly to guide the
applicants for easy application. 4. Update in periodic manner through its Program Specialist on the students status all throughout the application process from beginning until departure and will continue to provide ON GOING Support while the students are in the USA, until their return to the Philippines. 5. Deliver a comprehensive FREE Program Briefing and Orientations, Intensive Pre Visa Coaching Sessions and Customized Pre Departure Orientations to all students of the Second Party joining the said programs. DONE. Our dedicated program specialist assigned to CEU Malolos was in constant contact with the students and CEU Malolos Internship Coordinator from application to deployment to welcoming back the students. DONE. All orientations, Visa coaching and Pre-Departure Orientations were done for FREE and held at the school. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT FUND and PROGRAM APPRECIATION TOUR TO US INCENTIVE The First Party undertakes to accept the qualified students of the Second Party who will participate in the Student Cultural Exchange Program of the Department of State of the United States of America. The First Party shall contribute the amount of Eighty US Dollars ($80.00) per student who successfully leaves for the US to CEU s Program Development Fund for the enhancement of the latter s International Programs as facilitated by United Towers Philippines Inc. The Program Development Fund shall be released by the First Party to the Second Party within 15 working days after to the departure of the last successful Second Party s students to the United States of America. The First Party will give an incentive of one (1) Free Round Trip to USA with 2-day accommodation in the areas where their students are deployed as part of the Program Appreciation Tour, for every Fifteen (20) successful applicants provided by the Second Party. DONE. TO BE RELEASED minimum 2 weeks from the departure date of the last participant: 29 successful applicants x $80=Total of $2320 The CEU Malolos has 29 successful students to send to USA. UNIVERSITY PARTNER S OBLIGATIONS TO UNITED TOWERS PHILIPPINES 1. Confirm and designate an annual Orientation Seminar (or as often as may be required) for the UTP to promote the Student Cultural Exchange Program and other programs to CEU Malolos students, attended as well by their parent/s or guardians at a specified location within the institution s premises. 2. Campaign & support UTP s programs to students and their parents/guardians and provide the former with periodic updates of the program s development and progress in the institution. 3. Provide the necessary facilities and equipment to arrive a successful Program orientation and as well as allow promote and foster UTP s marketing materials and/or booth stand if applicable in a conspicuous place within the institution premises. 4. Initiate, communicate, and facilitate confirmation of Schedule Orientation whichever in relation to the current programs being offered by UTP and later conduct such to the students of the former at a designated venue, time within their premises. UTP MANILA ROADSHOW (Shangrila Taguig) UTP BEYOND BORDERS organized bigger and better Job Hiring Events this year which resulted in more impactful outcome both to the applicants and the employers. With the support of our US Visa Sponsors, we were able to fly in and hosted In-Person Job Interviews in Shangrila Taguig, participated by applicants nationwide. Nine students from CEU Malolos was able to attend the face-to-face hiring event. On top of the In-Person Job Interviews, UTP arranged and supervised Skype/Online Job Interviews almost on a daily basis from October to December 2017. The remaining (20) students were hired via Skype.
III. b. Cultural Activities Participated while in the USA Most of the students are maximizing their time to participate in the American events such as 1. St Patrick s Day 2. Easter celebration 3. Reggae Fest 4. Visiting malls and window shopping 5. Eating at buffet restaurants 6. Visiting museums and historical places on their respective areas 7. Meeting Filipino community and a lot more c. Housing All CEU Malolos participants will be deployed with housing already. Wonderworks was not housing provided but already have their housing prior to departure. VI. Program Appreciation Trip to USA Every year, UTP sponsors partner educators for a Trip to USA for the USA Program Appreciation Tour. UTP hosts the tour comprising of visits at the work sites and housing facilities as well as meeting the Employers, US Visa Sponsors and/or Housing Landlords to better appreciate the holistic view of the USA Work and Travel Program and their impact to the personal and professional growth of the participants. UTP will sponsor the round trip ticket, accommodation for 3days and 2 nights and $200 Transportation Allowance from the Airport to the Hotel. This year, the USA Program Appreciation Tour will be represented by Ms. Amelia Valencia VII. Summary and Recommendation The second year of partnership between UTP and CEU Malolos has been a success, thanks to the support of the Internship office in promoting the USA Work and Travel Program. WHAT WORKED Big support of the President and Practicum Coordinator Close coordination of UTP and the Practicum Coordinator Open Access of UTP to all participants (direct link) and Program Coordinator (Transparency/Real Time Updates through our UTP Router System) Hassle Free Online Application applicants didn t have to cut classes to submit requirements
CIEE Virtual Roadshow the students were interviewed via Skype immediately Many open positions in one area through close partnership with UT- Exclusive partners and CIEE, the biggest US VISA sponsor for Work and Travel.
