Acute Rehabilitation In 2012, Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital opened its new, CARF-certified Acute Rehabilitation Unit. The twenty-two private rooms feature new furniture, modern décor, flat screen televisions with an upgraded cable package and free Wi-Fi. Each room boasts a private bathroom, complete with built-in shower bench to provide comfort and privacy for each patient as they rehabilitate. Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation TBI Waiver-Qualifying The Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program is for individuals who have suffered from a Traumatic Brain Injury and have the goal of returning to a community setting, but who may need a significant amount of time and rehabilitation to be able to reach their goals and who may also have complex medical needs that complicate their rehabilitation process. Interdisciplinary Approach The Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Meadowbrook is a very intensive program with a vast array of services. The individual has a complete team of rehabilitation professionals which may include: Physiatrist, Internal Medicine, Neuropsychologist, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Neuro-optometrist, CBIS Program Director, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists, 24-hour Registered Nurses, 24-hour Respiratory Therapy, Recreational Therapist, Music Therapist, Certified Wound Care Nurse, Social Worker, Registered Dietician and a Rehabilitation Physician that work diligently to ensure the individual returns to the community at their highest level of independence. Meadowbrook is the only Kansas Medicaid funded TBI waiver program Acute Rehabilitation level of care Goal of returning to independent living with Home and Community Based Services as needed Kansas TBI Waiver (HCBS/TBI Program) Goal of returning to independent living with Home and Community Based Services as needed In order to qualify for the HCBS/TBI program, a patient must meet the following eligibility guidelines: Diagnosed Traumatic Brain Injury Be 16 to 65 years of age Meet the criteria for TBI rehabilitation hospital placement as determined by screening, completed by the ADRC Meet the financial guidelines to qualify for Kansas Medicaid Traumatic Brain Injury is an insult to the brain, caused by an external physical force both blunt trauma and penetrating forces including: Motor vehicle accidents Falls Violence Sports Gunshot wounds TBI Waiver services apply ONLY to traumatic injuries. TBI Waiver- Non Qualifying Acquired Brain Injury is an injury to the brain that occurred after birth and includes NOT ONLY injuries from external force, but also internal insults including: Tumors Blood clots Strokes Seizures Infections Anoxia ABI of this nature is NOT included in TBI waiver services.
