The Foundation looks for opportunities to positively impact our community through granting, establishment of endowment funds, facilitation of community leadership and developing partnerships.
Impacting the Community Through Partnership WCF Promotes and Develops Community through Katie Cares Partnership. It s been an incredible privilege for the Winkler Community Foundation to have partnered with Katie Cares Inc. over the past year accepting donations for the Katie s Cottage project. It s been encouraging to see the support from the community and surrounding area towards the building of a respite facility that will help families with loved ones in the hospital. Phillip Vallelly, President of the WCF. Katie Cares is now able to accept donations on their behalf. We want to Thank Katie Cares Inc. for the opportunity to work with them. The relationship will continue as the Katie Cares Endowment fund created by Kaitlyn Reimer will remain at the Winkler Community Foundation and will continue to support the efforts of the Katie Cares Inc. forever. WCF helps build community through partnership with Winkler Arts & Culture. This partnership allowed the WAC`s fundraising drive to move forward. Money has been received by WCF and will be disbursed to the WA&C building project shortly as the city moves forward on the project. The Winkler Community Foundation is here for the community, to build the community and support projects that are important to the community. For one day only, November 14th, gifts made to the Winkler Community Foundation s Community fund will be stretched by The Winnipeg Foundation ($1 for every $5 donated) up to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation. For a second year The Winnipeg Foundation will be organizing the Giving Challenge for Manitoba community foundations in November, Endow Manitoba month. This is a great opportunity for your community foundation to grow its Community fund. Want to make your gift go even further? All community fund donations made will be matched by the Thomas Sill Foundation matching challenge. So your gift of $500 will be $750 thanks to Thomas Sill Foundation.
Impacting the Community Through Leadership WCF supports 3 Youth in Philanthropy groups: Northland Parkway Collegiate, Winkler Elementary School and Parkland Elementary School. Youth in Philanthropy is a valuable way for young people to learn about their community and how they can have an impact as philanthropists. The Winkler Community Foundation offers YiP committees a matching grant of up to $1,000 to distribute back to the community. The local High Schools have endowed their fundraised money and only grant out the matching amount provided by the WCF; taking on a similar format to what a Foundation does. The YiP endowment fund is now over $10,000. This allows additional funds to be granted back to the community through the High School grant program in spring. The Elementary programs grant all funds raised and matched back into the community. YiP grants are disbursed in spring each year. Community Funding Partnerships The WCF has worked with National organizations to bring additional funds into our community. True Sport matching grant program (2014) and Benjamin Moore Grant program (2010) are two recent programs. As True Sport s Smart & Caring Community matching program is wrapping up, they gave the Winkler Community Foundation a second round of funding in the Fall of 2015. Thanks to Scotties Tournament of Hearts committee for kick starting the drive to raise $50,000 for the Community fund. All gifts made to the community fund until Fall 2016 will be matched by the Thomas Sill Foundation in effort to help grow the community fund. The Thomas Sill Foundation will match 50 to each $1 donated, making a $500 donation $750. Your gift will impact our community year after year forever. There s never been a better time To Give!

Greetings from the President Phillip Vallely The Genius of Generosity Hyperopia is the medical term for farsightedness. A condition that allows you to see objects in the distance but objects up close are blurry. Hyperopia or farsightedness is a condition that the Winkler Community Foundation embraces. For example a financial gift that is given today may not at first glance appear much, but the belief that this gift just keeps on giving highlights the genius of generosity. It is genius to think that a gift that was given in 1995 went toward educational scholarships in 2015. It is genius to think that a gift that was given in 1996 enables the Winkler Community Foundation to grant out funds in 2016. The genius of farsightedness for our community allows us to: Bring donors to the table as community builders, and help them formulate and realize their philanthropic goals, matching their interests and concerns with community needs and organizations, and finding innovative and responsible ways to give their investments lasting impact. Take the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed. This is why our grants support everything from shelter, sustenance and care for those most in need, to recreation, the arts, and the environment. Identify long-term needs and opportunities and invest in sustainable solutions, helping our communities become resilient, resourceful, and ready for the future they want. Needless to say, none of this would be possible without your generosity.
