GEM AWARD (GOOD ENTHUSIASTIC M EMBER) Purpose: Recognize new members for club involvement during the first year of Sertoma membership. Furnished By: Sertoma Time Period: First 12 months of membership. Deadline: Must be submitted by end of quarter following completion. Please allow up to 3 weeks processing time. Eligibility: Any new member in good standing. REQUIREMENTS: Use Form 200: GEM Award. Awarded upon completion of the following: 1. Be formally inducted into a club. 2. Attend a member orientation meeting. 3. Serve as a committee member. 4. Attend club meetings regularly. 5. Work on club projects for 20 hours. 6. Attend a club board of directors meeting. 7. Attend a PAC, District Meeting, Regional or Annual Sertoma Convention. 8. Support the Sertoma Annual Fund. 9. Sponsor a new member. I n d i vi d u a l Aw a r d s G u i d e l i n e s 1
MENTOR AWARD Purpose: Recognize members upon completion of assisting new member through the first year of membership and obtaining the GEM Award. The new member must achieve GEM. Time Period: First 12 months of new Sertoman s membership. Deadline: Must be submitted by end of quarter following completion. Please allow up to 3 weeks processing time. REQUIREMENTS: Use Form 199: Mentor Award. Awarded upon completion of the following: 1. Attend member orientation meeting with new member. 2. Attend club meetings regularly with new member. 3. Attend one club board of directors meeting with new member. 4. Attend one of the following with new member: PAC, District Meeting, Regional or Annual Sertoma Convention. 5. SERVICE AWARD Purpose: Recognize members for continued service to the organization. Time Period: Upon completion of recognized levels of Sertoma service. Deadline: Must be submitted by end of quarter following completion. Due to high volume, awards needed for a June banquet or event need to be submitted by May 1st. For all orders allow 3 weeks processing time. REQUIREMENTS: Use Form 206: Service Award. Accomplishment of outstanding service to the organization through Sertoma Service as defined below: SERTOMA SERVICE Service related to club activities qualifies for the Sertoma Service Award. Service hours should be tracked by the club, utilizing a system that defines approved activities. Individual service beyond club activities would not be appropriate for this award. These contributions would be appropriate for Sertoman of the Year recognition. Examples: 1) Service hours associated with club activities including planning, organizing and conducting the activity would be appropriate. 2) Service hours towards outside activities that members are urged to participate in would be appropriate. 3) Individual performing volunteer service at a school, as a volunteer in their church, or assisting with political campaigns would not be appropriate Sertoma Service hours. These examples are not intended to be all inclusive. Please consider them guidelines. LEADERSHIP AWARD Purpose: Recognize Sertomans for exemplary club leadership. Time Period: Fiscal year just completed. Deadline: Must be submitted by end of quarter following completion. Due to high volume, awards needed for a June banquet or event need to be submitted by May 1st. For all orders allow 3 weeks processing time. REQUIREMENTS: Use Form 205: Leadership Award. Awarded upon completion of leadership commitments. Mandatory Requirements: 1. Must attend Regional Convention or Annual Sertoma Convention. 2. Support the Annual Fund. 3. Must chair a functioning committee of the club. Must Complete at Least Four (4) Additional Requirements: 1. Serve as a member of the Board of Directors in your club. 2. Actively participate in a speech and hearing function of the club. 3. Participate in a New Member Orientation. 4. Lead or assist in a training function for your club. 5. CLUB BUILDER AWARD Purpose: Recognize efforts and dedication necessary to develop, educate and mentor a new Sertoma Club. Award: Multiple levels Team Leader receives Club Builder Leader medallion for 1st club built, Club Builder Leader 2 medallion for 2nd club built, and Master Club Builder medallion and Blazer upon completion of 3rd club built. Team Member receives recognition pin. Furnished By: Sertoma Awarded To: Individual Awarded By: Sertoma Time Period: Upon New Club's achievement of Charter. Deadline: New Club Charter Banquet. REQUIREMENTS: Use Form 208: Club Builder Award. Awarded upon completion of the following: 1. Identify site for club development. Ensure location has enough individuals interested and qualified to support a new Sertoma club. 2. Identify and recruit founding leadership. 3. Ensure new leadership is properly trained. 4.
