Animal Science The University of Tennessee Extension Service Fact Sheet 2011 Knoxville Spring Junior Cattle Exposition The 2011 Knoxville Spring Junior Cattle Exposition was composed of the 76 th Knoxville Finished Cattle Show, a commercial and a registered heifer show and 15 other events in which 4-H and FFA members could demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained by participating in the Beef Project. There were 114 exhibitors from 19 East Tennessee counties that exhibited 174 animals. In the Knoxville Finished Steer Show, 22 exhibitors from 9 counties showed 29 steers. The Commercial Heifer Show involved 44 exhibitors from 11 counties that showed 59 animals. The Registered Heifer Show involved exhibition of 5 different breeds of 86 heifers by 50 boys and girls from 13 counties. More than 450 ribbons and rosettes, 35 plaques and 75 medallions were awarded to the exhibitors. The Farm Credit Service of Mid-America awarded $1,000 post-high school educational scholarship to John Edwards, the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Steer, while the Knoxville Livestock Center awarded a $750 scholarship to Brad Tollett, exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Steer. Volunteer Energy Cooperative awarded a $750 scholarship to John Edwards, $500 scholarship to Madison Martin and $250 to Kendall Garrell, Premier Exhibitors in the Heifer Division., Twenty-eight different associations, businesses farms and individuals provided support and assistance to the 2011 Knoxville Spring Junior Cattle Exposition. The Knoxville Chamber is one of these sponsors. The Knoxville Spring Junior Cattle Exposition was conducted at Chilhowee Park and hosted by The Tennessee Valley Fair. Post High School Educational Scholarships The Exhibitor of Grand Champion Market Steer, Taylor Edwards of Campbell County, will receive a $1,000 post high school education scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by Farm Credit Services of Mid America. Brad Tollet of Rhea County exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer and will receive a $750 post high school educational scholarship, sponsored by the Knoxville Livestock Center. The Senior Level Premier Exhibitor of the Beef Heifer Show, John Edwards of Campbell County, will receive a $750 post high school education scholarship. The Junior High Level Premier Exhibitor, Madison Martin of Monroe County, will receive a $500 post high school education scholarship. The Junior Level Premier Exhibitor, Kendall Garrell of Marshall County, will receive a $250 post high school education scholarship. All three scholarships were sponsored by Volunteer Energy Cooperative of Decatur County. The scholarship may be claimed after the winner has successfully completed the first term of post high school education. Post high school education includes attending a first term of post high school education. Post high school education includes attending a college or university, a technical school, or trade school that is accredited. Eligible exhibitors must claim the scholarship following completion of the first term of their post high school education or forfeit the award. Exhibitors not attending a post high school educational institution within 18 months following high school graduation will forfeit their eligibility to receive the scholarship.
