Soldier/Civilian Skills Vignettes MAJ Thomas Doyle: works as a Cyber Intelligence Analyst at FBI s Boston Field Office. Army Reserve duties - supports the Defense Intelligence Agency s Computer Network Defense Center. MAJ Doyle identified a vulnerability in the file management system on the Army s Human Resources Command (HRC) website. This vulnerability allowed authenticated users to access sensitive personnel records (including medical records) of other users. MAJ Doyle alerted the HRC who quickly fixed this vulnerability. As an Army Reservist, he served as a Cyber Threat Indications and Warning Team Leader, charged with training with active and reserve component entities in real world situations in ever-evolving cyber threat environments. He was awarded the Defense Intelligence Agency CIO company grade officer of the year award. MAJ Leong 2nd gentleman from the right. Soldier/Civilian Skills Vignettes 1LT Peter McKee: is a Technical Lead for Uber Technologies. Peter supervises the development and implementation of Uber s external Application Programming Interface (API) which enables strategic partnerships with other multi-national corporations and Business-to-Business (B2B) relationships. He is responsible for monitoring the proper use of API in order to detect improper usage such as corporate espionage and violations of Uber s terms of Service. As a member of Western Cyber, 1LT McKee is an expert on malware analysis with direct mission support for Army Research Labs. He holds a Masters in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. 1LT McKee 2 nd gentleman from left is pictured with previous Chief of the Army Reserve LTG Talley during a visit with industry. 12

Soldier/Civilian Skills Vignettes SSG Lydia Seaborn: works for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as one of the Cyber Resiliency Advisors. She was featured on Good Morning America to showcase being the first female Cyber Soldier in the USAR. She was the first female, the first Army Reserve graduate, and the distinguished honor graduate from the 25D Cyber Network Defender course. SSG Seaborn waiving, was one of two Soldiers interviewed during the Army Birthday Celebration on Good Morning America. 13

Digital Reliance With No Analog Backup - Fire starting using analog methods on TV - What will we do when confronted by EMP or EW or PNT attack? TA312? Twisted pair? Runners with hand written notes? Carrier pigeons? - Training on old land nav maps/compass to reduce reliance on GPS - Battle staff NCO class teaches NCO s how to operate a TOC with just charts - What analog methods do we need to keep our operations running? 15
