2 Did you know that the #1 fear of most adults is public speaking? If only they had participated in their 4 H Speech and Demonstration Contest! Now is the time to begin working on a speech or demonstration to present at the 2018 Hardin Co. 4 H Talk Meet & Demonstration Contest on Friday, April 20th. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the program starting at 6:00 p.m. You must pre register for this event! To register, please call the Extension Office at (270) 765 4121 and be ready to give the following information: Name, Title of Speech and/or Demo and Birth Date NO LATER than Monday, April 16th. Late registrations will not be accepted. To receive a copy of the complete Rules and Regulations, stop by the Extension Office. 2018 4 H CLOVER BUD FAMILY CAMP June 1 3, 2018 West Kentucky 4 H Camp Dawson Springs, KY Cost: $120.00 (per person) 4 H Clover Bud Family Camp is for youth ages 5 8 years old and must a end with at least one supervising adult age 18+. All 4 H sewing members are encouraged to par cipate in the 4 H Fashion Revue held Friday, May 4 th with sign in star ng at 5:30 p.m. and the Fashion Review to start at 6:00 p.m. Deadline for registra on is Monday, April 30 th. All entries must be turned into the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27th with a Garment Form a ached. Garments are judged by area Master Clothing Volunteers. Please contact the Extension Office for a Garment Form. Entries will be judged prior to the Fashion Revue for quality of construc on for a par al score and will be judged during the Fashion Revue for fit and look on the 4 H member through an informal interview. The top three par cipants in each category will be eligible to compete at the Area Rally Day on Saturday, May 12th.

3 The Hardin County 4 H Council will once again be offering two (2) $500 scholarships to graduating High School Seniors who are actively enrolled in the Hardin County 4 H Program. This scholarship is based on their accomplishments in 4 H and can be used for college or vocational technical school. Application deadline is Friday, April 27th. The Kentucky 4 H Founda on is excited to announce its 2018 Scholarship Program. Through the support of our sponsors, the Founda on is again offering six college scholarships; the James W. Kidwell Memorial ($1,500), Farm Credit Mid America (four $500 scholarships), and the Michael Bandy/Ale 8 One ($1,000) Scholarships. To be eligible to receive one of these scholarships applicants must have been an ac ve 4 H member for the last two years, must graduate from high school in 2018, and also be a resident of Kentucky. Forms are available at at www.kentucky4hfounda on.org. The deadline for scholarship applica ons is Friday, May 4, 2018 and MUST be postmarked by that date. All winners will be recognized during the 4 H Teen Conference held June 11 14 2018. A en on all 4 H TEENS grades 8 12! This summer, you will have a chance to experience 4 H Teen Conference! Teen Conference will be held on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington June 11 14. At Teen Conference, you will have the opportunity to meet 4 H teens from all over Kentucky while ge ng a taste of what living on a college campus is really like! You will choose fun and exci ng tracks and workshops, take a UK campus tour, vote on your 2018 19 State 4 H Officers, a end a district night out event, go to several 4 H assemblies, cheer on your peers for receiving their 4 H Achievement Awards and even will get to a end dances to mingle with all the new friends you will make. Total cost to a end is $250 and will cover lodging, all meals and travel, however, the 4 H council will help sponsor each youth a ending. This 4 day conference is well worth it so mark your calendars and make plans to a end! A mandatory orienta on for Teen Conference will be required and will be held at the Taylor Co Extension Office on May 14 at 5:00PM. To register for Teen Conference, please contact the Extension Office to receive a registra on packet. Deadline to register is May 1 st with at least $125 deposit.

4 Dr. Ricky Tatum, KY Fish and Wildlife Hunter Education Instructor, will conduct a Hunter Safety Education Training (Orange Card) from 6:30 9:30 p.m. on April 24th, 25th & 26th, 2018 at the Hardin County Extension Office. Those attending and passing the exam will receive their orange card certification for the safe handling of firearms. Youth must be 9 years of age to take the exam and have until they reach their 12th birthday to complete the training and pass the test. A temporary hunter permit is also available which allows a person to hunt for one year without first completing a hunter education course. This permit is available on the KY Department of Fish and Wildlife (www.fw.ky.gov) website for a $5 fee and is for both KY residents and nonresidents. This is a one time only permit and once it expires you must complete the hunter education training and pass the exam to purchase a regular hunting license. Effective March 1, 2014 All Hunter Education Courses will require on line pre registration. You may find the date above at the following website. http://www.register ed.com/programs/kentucky/120 Scroll down to the date listed above and register for the event. This will also allow for faster processing of cards.

CLUB NEWS 6 FEATHERS & FLUFF POULTRY/RABBIT CLUB At the March mee ng members discussed fundraising and community service projects in addi on to a lesson on showing rabbits. They learned that NOW is the me to breed your rabbits so offspring will be old enough to show at the Hardin County Fair in July. Due to spring break week, the club will not meet during their regular me and have rescheduled to meet during their community service project at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Bun Bun Brigade in Elizabethtown. Please join us to help clean cages, groom and provide love to some bunnies. The club wishes to extend a special GET WELL wish to Kayleigh Thomas who recently underwent surgery due to a sports injury. The club will not meet on the 2 nd Tuesday for April and have rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16 th at the Extension Office. Caleb Thomas, Farm Service Agency Loan Officer, will be on hand to provide families with informa on regarding youth loans. We will have record books on hand as you get ready for the summer show season and reminders on upcoming events. Show season is just a few months away however 4 H Livestock Club members are ge ng ready! Josie & Riley Pike traveled to Morehead State University to par cipate in the Strive for the Drive workshop and several club members recently visited with Nick Stuecker to learn more about market goats.
