MEMBER ROLES AND ESSAY QUESTIONS The AmeriCorps Cape Cod program is looking to fill several Member Roles within its program structure. The following table lists a brief description and several responsibilities for each available Member Role. Please review the table and decide which role or roles you would be most interested in serving in. For a more in depth look at each position, detailed position descriptions can be found at http://www.americorpscapecod.org/join-us-2/apply/ ROLE DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES General Corps Member 26 positions available This is the program s general member position. Members will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of environmental, disaster preparedness and response, community education and volunteer projects. Seasonal and weekly variety of projects. General Service and Residential responsibilities including participation in group service, Individual Placement assignments, and community outreach, event planning, environmental education, disaster response, and volunteer recruitment. FireCorps Member 6 positions available The FireCorps positions focus on natural resource management goals, primarily by implementing wildland fire projects in Barnstable County. Corps members will serve on labor-intensive outdoor service projects working as part of a squad using a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish fuel reduction and prescribed burn activities. Projects highly focused on wildland fire management, little seasonal and weekly variety. Corps Members provide service to the Cape Cod community and environment in the areas of disaster preparedness/response and natural resource management through fire mitigation projects including, controlled burns, mechanical means of fire fuels reduction, and plot studies. Service will be physically demanding. Long service days may be required; temperatures are frequently extreme, both from weather and fire conditions. Daily use of power equipment (chainsaws, brushcutters, etc) is expected. Members will also be required to do community education and outreach at various times throughout the year. PLEASE NOTE: These roles indicate the general focus members will have during the program year. ALL members will participate in ALL aspects and focus areas of the program.
