Halloween trunk or treat! Allen County Scottsville CERT members Tonda Walker, Tammy Lonas, and Jeff Thomas used the traditional holiday to give information as well as treats. Coloring books, puzzles, and emergency information from FEMA websites was distributed to over 100 families. (Everyone loved the homemade twister.) BRADD MRC Announces Two awards from NACCHO It is with great pleasure that the Barren River Area Development District Medical Reserve Corps announces that they have been awarded two awards from the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO). The Capacity Building Award in the amount of $3,500. This funding will be used to purchase uniform polo shirts, uniform caps, response backpacks, and response supplies for the packs. Uniform shirts are issued to members who have reached the MRC Basic Level. Response backpacks with supplies are issued to members who have reached the Intermediate level or higher. The Challenge Award in the amount of $15,000 is to be used to promote and teach pet preparedness and Pet First Aid-CPR (Project Pet Ready). The funding will be used for the cost of: training instructors, supplies to teach pet first aid/cpr, advertising, equipment, and evaluation. Interested MRC members can be trained to provide Pet CPR/First Aide classes - Stay tuned for more information by email, and in the next newsletter.
BRADD Citizen Corps Newsletter Page 2 Citizen Corps Program Updates for Third and Fourth Quarter of 2014 BRADD MRC The BRADD MRC held their Annual Fall Training Event in September. The training was a follow up of lessons learned from the shelter exercise done last year. The BRADD MRC training team provided a day long class for the WKU RN to BSN program in October. They also provided a class in Hart County for new CERT members there. The BRADD MRC participated in a national level exercise in October. Two BRADD MRC members attended IS-300 and 400 training with community leaders in August and September. Allen County-Scottsville Allen County CERT conducted another class from August to October. Three CERT members set up an information booth (reported on page 1.) Metcalfe County Metcalfe County Emergency Management and BRADD Citizen Corps set up an information booth at the Carhartt Health and Safety Fair in September. Logan County Adairville held a National Night Out event in August. Barren County Barren County CERT/MRC assisted with two events during the third quarter. They provided First Aid and traffic control for the county fair. They also assisted the Barren River Lake State Park with the 4 th of July fireworks and the Trash Master s Classic. Jim May, Chair of the Barren County Citizen Corps Council, spoke at the Partnership of the Year; Allen County Drug Court Barren County ESF meeting in September about the role, and contributions, of CERT response in Barren County. Several Barren County CERT members attend a Donation Management training in September. Hart County Hart County completed another CERT class on November 4 with 10 new members. Several members set up booths at area events; Caverna Ready Fest, Hart County Civil War Days, Bonnieville July 4 th Celebration, and the Hart County Repair Affair. In September, George and Tonia Bruton spoke at some local meetings in Hart County, including the Lyons Club and the Hart County Repair Affair. Warren County Warren County Citizen Corps held their first Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) meeting in December. There were 20 residents from the Lorie Village present. In this project, residents watched a video that walked them through the materials they had been given and essential neighborhood readiness steps including preparation of a plan, having basic equipment in a predetermined spot and much more.

Every year we choose volunteers at the county level to be nominated for regional awards. Janarae Conway is asking that you send your nominations to her by February 23, 2015 either by mail or e-mail to be considered for the following awards. (Contact information listed in the Calendar of Events.) Please, list the award, the nominee s name, and the reason they should be recognized. When writing the reason please try to stay as general as possible. Their accomplishments should be from January 2014 December 2014. Council of the Year: This would be the council that has been the most active in their county. They must have met at least twice in the past year, sponsored at least two CERT trainings the past year and participated in a local fair or promotional event. Regional Council member of the year: This would be a member who has gone above and beyond what is asked of them. They have stepped up to the plate and promoted citizen corps programs. They have attended meetings, helped plan regional events, helped promote Citizen Corps Programs in their county. Partnership Award: This would be for a partner of any citizen corps program. It could be a business, individual, or another agency. They have worked hard to promote what citizen corps teaches, and they are an example of a great partnership. Trainer of the year: This would be a trainer who has gone above and beyond what has been asked of them. BRADD Citizen Corps Newsletter Page 7 Volunteer Recognition Banquet CERT team of the year: This could be a county wide team or a community team. They must be active in their Citizen Corps program by helping with information booths, attending trainings and meetings, and assisting with exercises of other CERT members as a victim or evaluator. Volunteer of the year: This would be a volunteer who commits a lot of time to the citizen corps programs. They participate in anything citizen corps does. They have completed the CERT and MRC training. They have probably done anything they have been asked to do. This individual may have even asked What else can I do? Billy Wright Rookie of the Year: Memorial Award: This is for someone who in their first year of volunteerism has shown a commitment to the Citizen Corps program(s). They have been involved in anything they can to help the organization they are volunteering with. They may have even gone to another county to do their CERT and/or MRC training. They were involved in a Citizen Corps Council or program in their county. They may have helped start a team or Citizen Corps program in their community or county, or recruited members for the organization. Barbara Vinson Memorial Award: This would be someone who, despite physical or mental challenges, had the courage and bravery to complete the CERT program and continued to do anything they could for the organization. This person should possess a zeal and excitement for the Community Emergency Response Team program that helps to promote and expand the program by recruiting new members.

The BRADD Citizen Corps Council will be promoting Preparedness Themes to include Earthquake Awareness in February, Severe Weather Awareness Month in March, and National Volunteer Recognition in April. It is that time of year again to start filling out and turning in Workers Comp Forms. They have to be redone every year around January. You will find one in this newsletter. Please fill it out and return to Ann Bray. If we don t receive one from you, you will be considered inactive. You also will not be covered if you are injured during a response or exercise.
