We would like to welcome all the new families into AFRICOM. We are still fare welling many of our families and wish them all the best! There are many things happening within our Garrison and Stuttgart community. Please be sure to stay plugged in with our monthly newsletter. It seems as if summer just started, but the new school year is just around the corner. Don t forget to visit child(rens) school if you have them and receive important dates and information to ensure they start the school year off right. Our community is comprised of personnel who represent all military service branches and status, and DoD civilians and contractor personnel. For those who are not aware of the AFRICOM Family Readiness Group (FRG), we are open to everyone (civilians, contractors, family members and service members of all branches. If you are interested in learning more about the AFRICOM FRG you can contact one of the representatives identified on page 2 of this newsletter or come by and see us at our table at the USAG Stuttgart C.A.R.E. Fair. Please see more details about the C.A.R.E. Fair on page 3. The FRG's continued ability to support the AFRICOM community rests heavily on the selfless assistance of our volunteers. From the Post Office: Due to customs requirements Express mail delivery is not guaranteed from Europe to the United States. Also, the new Post Master is Mr. Robert Rauschenplat Cell Phones Prohibited: Use of hand-held is prohibited while in a motor vehicle unless the motor is turned off. The fine for talking on a cell phone is a mandatory 7-day suspension and carries 3 points on USAREUR license.

Family Readiness Group Leader The AFRICOM Family Readiness Group is looking for a Leader. If you are an AFRICOM spouse and looking for a worthwhile volunteer opportunity where you can make a difference, this may be for you. The HQ Commandant is currently accepting nominations for the position from August 8-19. Please submit your nominee and a personal biography, not to exceed two pages in length. The biography should highlight any experience or training in Family Readiness or other like organizations/activities. Stuttgart Youth Newcomers Orientation New to Stuttgart Germany, come and join other people your age! The Stuttgart Youth Newcomers Orientation: It is free for all youth in grades 6-12 You will see the Stuttgart City Center, visit downtown attractions, tour the military community, learn how to navigate the German Public Transportation and learn German Customs and languages. Upcoming Dates: July 21-22 9a.m.-4p.m. Aug. 11-12 9a.m.-4p.m. Aug. 25-26 9a.m.-4p.m. Sept. 15-16 3p.m.-6p.m. Sept. 17 10 a.m.-4p.m. All participants must be registered with CYS Services Parent Central Services. The 9th International Firework Competition Night of the Flaming Stars The Night of the Flaming Stars, 19-21 August in Ostfildern s Scharnhauser Park. The three countries competing this year are United States, China and Greece. This is the first time the U.S. has participated and will be represented by Walt Disney Parks, who has never performed outside their park. The schedule is as follows: Greece performs Friday night 19 Aug. China performs Saturday night 20 Aug. United States performs Sunday night 21 Aug. The event opens Friday and Saturday at 6p.m. Sunday at 4p.m. Fireworks start at 10:30p.m. every night. The country represented will be hosting entertainment, food and other booths. Tickets can be bought at Marktkauf ( grocery store) in Sindelfingen Breuningerland. 4 Euro s. Adults are 13 and kids 6-11 are 6 Euro if you don t buy early. Go now, save 3 Euro s.
