RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT GRANT SUBMISSIONS PENDING February 1- February 28, 2018 GRANT Name of Project: Bank of America Valencia College Continuing Education: Accelerated Skills Training Accountable Administrators: Joe Battista Project Directors: Joe Battista Campus Department: Valencia Foundation Funding Category: Foundation Funding Source: Bank of America Foundation Date Application Submitted: 2/23/2018 DESCRIPTION Valencia Continuing Education recognizes the high needs within our communities such as in Downtown Orlando and sees the opportunity to serve residents who currently lack access to short-term workforce programs that leads to gainful employment. Therefore, Valencia seeks funding in the amount of $15,000 for scholarship support to offer the construction program in the lowincome Downtown Orlando neighborhood of Parramore. The construction program was specifically selected for Downtown Orlando. Lasting six weeks (200 hours) and costing $2,800 per person, the program results in attaining five industry-standard certifications: NCCER, OSHA10, MOT Intermediate, CPR, and First Aid. This particular program has seen high placement rates due to the multi-year Orlando 1-4 expansion project, part of $9 billion in construction projects already underway in Central Florida.
