Steeple Center, Room 200 The talk will look at winemaking from growing grapes to drinking the result. As we examine the different stages of the process from vineyard to winery and then bottling and drinking, we ll examine some of the history of making wine and how wine growing practices have changed over the millennia. P a r k s & R e c T R I P S & O U T I N G S Hot Spots in Minneapolis* Thursday, August 16 Registration Deadline: Thursday, July 12 Cost - $63/person Bus leaves Community Center at 9:15 a.m. and returns at approximately 3:00 p.m. Spend \ summer day checking out the volunteer operated Minneapolis Firefighters Hall & Museum! We will take a guided tour of the facility, the premier museum of its kind in the upper Midwest, dedicated to presenting and preserving the history of firefighting. The 12,000 square foot museum contains a variety of vehicles, equipment, literature, and photographs related to firefighting and firefighters, and the entrance façade was designed in the style of a turn of the century Minneapolis Fire Station. Permanent displays include an 1865 operating hand pumper, an 1894 Waterous steam fire engine, a 1919 American LaFrance Ladder Truck from Mankato, a 1932 FWD pumper built by the Minneapolis Fire Department shop and other historic firefighting equipment. Following the tour, we will head to Betty Danger s Country Club for lunch, a unique restaurant in the Northeast Arts District. Our menu will include: a 2-taco plate luncheon with ground beef on a hard corn shell, black beans, Mexican rice, and lemon bars. After lunch, take a whirl on the Danger Ferris Wheel, and play some Mini Golf that s right, a ferris wheel and mini golf right at the restaurant!

Grandparents, Grandkids & Seniors Day at Holz Farm* Friday, August 24, 1:00 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Registration Deadline: August 17 Cost - $7/person, max of $50 for family of 8 NOTE: Participants must provide their own transportation to Holz Farm (4665 Manor Drive, Eagan) Experience the nostalgia of days gone by at the 1940s era Holz Farm in Eagan. This event welcomes seniors, grandparents, and their grandchildren to share an event to reconnect seniors and youth to farm life in the 1940s. Activities will include a tractor hay ride, entertainment, family games, and a picnic complete with roasted corn. The Friends of the Farm will also offer walking tours of the farm house, sharing education and cultural perspectives that appeal to a wide range of interests and ages. This event is sponsored by the South of the River Recreators (SORR) Senior Section. Please register each attendee. Cabin Ridge Wagon Ride* Friday, September 21 Registration Deadline: Thursday, August 16 Cost - $61/person Bus leaves Community Center at 8:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 4:15 p.m. We will be heading to the Cabin Ridge Rides, a 440 acre eco-friendly recreational facility located along scenic Paint Creek in Cadott, WI. Upon arrival, the horses and wagon will be waiting to take us to a rustic lodge in the woods. Enjoy lunch at the lodge including a menu as follows: baked chicken breast, assorted breads, baked beans, beverages and dessert. After lunch, be entertained by a speaker who will share over 200 years of family history along the creek, and enjoy some folk music by local musician, Tim Danielson. Arrive at Yellowstone Cheese Factory and Store. Before heading home, we will also stop at Yellowstone Cheese factory and store. Wabasha Fall Color Tour* Tuesday, October 2 Registration Deadline: Friday, August 31 Cost - $71/person Bus leaves Community Center at 8:00 a.m. and returns at approximately 6:00 p.m. Enjoy the beautiful fall season with a drive down the Great River Road as we head south to Wabasha. Stops along the way will include Pepin Heights Apple Orchard in Lake City, where you can shop for apple products and specialized gifts, and lunch at The Bluffs at Coffee Mill Golf Course. The restaurant overlooks the majestic Mississippi Valley with a wonderful panoramic view. The menu will include tossed salad, stuffed pork chop, mashed potatoes & gravy, seasonal vegetable, rolls, dessert, and coffee or tea. After lunch we will head to the famous National Eagle Center where we will have the opportunity to take in the many exhibits, gift shop, and glassed-in observation deck for eagle watching bring your binoculars! See the Ambassador Eagles and engage with the staff about these rehabilitated eagles during a classroom presentation. On the way home, we will stop at the Nelson Cheese Factory in Wisconsin for the opportunity to shop for cheese, fine wines, gourmet foods, and ice cream! *Requires pre-registration and payment.
