Farmington, MO 63640 573-760-8929 On the Web: www.unitedwayofsfc.org On Facebook: United Way of St. Francois County MASTERS OF BBQ to kick off dine out Three of the best barbecue chefs in the Parkland will unite Sept. 6 to cook for the United Way of St. Francois County! Matt Grief, Jim Hart and Rob Thomas will prepare their specialties and sell them from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. at Serenity HospiceCare, located just inside the main entrance to the Mineral Area College Campus. Grief will prepare barbecued chicken. He and his brother Mike have won awards throughout the country for their barbecue skills. Hart will make peppered pork tenderloin. He has his own barbecue sauce, Hart s Smokin Sauce in local groceries. Thomas will prepare pulled pork and will lend his familiar Celebrations trailer to the event for cooking. Sides will include coleslaw, baked beans, bread and a cookie, prepared by the four Senior Centers in the county. From left, Matt Greif, Rob Thomas and Jim Hart show off the food they will prepare for Masters of the BBQ, a fundraiser for United Way of St. Francois County on Thursday, Sept. 6. The cost of the plates will be $7, with a combination plate offering samples of each meat for $10. Pre-orders will be taken until Aug. 30. Drive-thru orders will continue to be taken on Sept. 6, as long as supplies last. (A pre-order form can be found on page 5 and also on our web site at www.unitedwayofsfc.org.) The event will kick off the Dine Out for United Way season, which is the traditional start of the fall fundraising campaign. Restaurants are donating at least 10 percent of their sales on a given day to the United Way. The restaurant fundraisers begin with Pasta House on Sept. 13 and continue on Thursdays through Nov. 15. A complete list will be posted on the United Way website and in the September newsletter. Dine Out proceeds go toward United Way administrative expenses, so that 100% of every individual s donation received through payroll deduction, check or in holiday wishing wells, can go toward the grants the United Way gives to agencies in St. Francois County. The Farmington Band Boosters are working with Helping Hands of St. Francois County to raise money for both the boosters and the United Way in August. On Saturday, Aug. 11, they will be at Walmart in Desloge and at Wal-Mart in Farmington on Saturday, August 18th. They will also sell fortune cookies with information about United Way! Please support them!
