Dec. 20th Rotary Archive Arthur Frederick Sheldon, who joined the Rotary Club of Chicago in 1908, articulated many of the guiding principles of Rotary, including his doctrine that He profits most who serves best. The principle was adopted at the second Rotary Convention. In 2004 the Rotary International Council on Legislation modified the wording to read: They Profit Most Who Serve Best. P a g e 3 Veterans Luncheon Held Our annual Veterans luncheon was held on November 13 at The Big Tree. The guest speaker was David Terry, Deputy Director of the Livingston County Veterans Services located in Mt, Morris. Photo by Angela Ellis He spoke about the wide range of personal services his office provides to veterans. Among them were disability insurance benefits, property tax exemptions, and a discount card that can be used at local businesses, David also mentioned the tiny house Geneseo High School students are building which will be donated to a local veteran in need. Mayor Hatheway was in attendance as well as four members of the Rotaract Club: Kayla Truong, Mustafa Aminalhaq, Anna Spence and Jamie MacBain and our exchange student Melody. Photos by Bob Lyon
P a g e 4 Jail Chaplain Retires After 39 Years of Service Paul Metzger, the longtime chaplain at the Livingston County Jail, is retiring after 39 years of service. The jail chaplain position is a crucial role to the services offered at the Livingston County Jail, said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty. The chaplain is responsible for organizing groups of different faith to offer services to the inmate population and is an important liaison to jail administration regarding any religious needs of the inmates. The chaplain performs any religious services that are required at the jail as well. Dougherty recognized Metzger s years of service at an Oct. 24 meeting of jail clergy at St. Mary s Church in Geneseo and presented him with a commemorative plaque bearing the following inscription. In Honor of Your Dedication and Years of Loyal Service Paul Metzger Jail Chaplain Having served in the capacity as Jail Chaplain for nearly 40 years, being an integral part of jail ministry for well over 40 years and having served three Sheriffs you have undoubtedly touched the lives of thousands of inmates and staff. For December, they are planning on helping out at the food pantry again!
