APRIL 2018 NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR The Chamber of Commerce works to be involved in all areas of community development. One issue that has plagued many businesses in our community is the lack of a qualified workforce, particularly in the skilled and trade professions. The Chamber has partnered with the Cherokee Schools, WITCC, Cherokee Industrial Corporation, and Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation to organize a career fair for 7 th grade students. We hope to open their eyes to a number career opportunities and impress with these students the importance of these careers in our community. We have identified 12 career paths which we will focus on, and are excited to be using a number of local businesses to present these topics. Topics will include: agriculture, transportation, CNA/nursing, construction, plumbing/hvac/ electrical, auto mechanics, police science, welding/ manufacturing, banking and small business ownership. Each of the careers that students will learn about are jobs that they can do right here in Cherokee. We realize this is a longterm strategy, but we want students to start thinking now about these careers as they choose their High School Classes and begin planning for their life after graduation. Our ultimate goal is that, as adults, they choose Cherokee as their home to Live, Work and do Business.
