Italy s focus on sub-saharan Africa: As a result of the Developing the Regions of Africa and Europe Forum in Taormina, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the South African Government to promote the bi-lateral trade and investment between the two countries. This gave rise to the South Africa-Italy Summit which was launched in 2014 in Cape Town. The second edition was also hosted at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town. In 2016, the Summit moved to Gauteng in Johannesburg for the third edition.
