MEDIA ADVISORY THE GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND YANG DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM S ACCESSION TO THE THRONE 5 TH OCTOBER 2017 1.1. MEDIA AND BROADCAST CENTRE The International Media Centre (IMC) and International Broadcast Centre (IBC) will be in operation from 3 7 October 2017. The operating hours will be 8.00am to 10.00pm. The IMC and IBC will provide communication facilities and other related media services to all accredited journalists, broadcasters and photographers. The IMC and IBC for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam s Accession to the Throne will be located at: International Media Centre (IMC): The Youth Centre in the capital where the procession will take place. International Broadcast Centre (IBC): The Dewan Raya of Radio Television Brunei in the capital where the procession will take place. 1.2. ACCREDITATION Accreditation is required for journalists / photographers / broadcasters covering the events. The ID card must be worn at all times and is required for entry to official events. For application / accreditation, members of the media may submit the Accreditation Form as attached to goldenjubilee@information.gov.bn not later than 20 th September 2017. Alternatively, kindly go to www.hmjubliemas.gov.bn for online application. A Letter of Assignment must accompany media applications endorsed by their respective organisation. Applications without the Letter of Assignment will not be processed. Applicants that have received approval should collect their Media ID cards at the Golden Jubilee Media / IMC Secretariat. Please bring with you photographic proof of identity (i.e. passport, driver s license or media identification card). It is highly recommended that all media collect their respective ID cards as soon as they arrive in the country. 1

MEDIA POOLS To ensure members of the media are able to cover events of the celebration, designated venues are subject to a pooling system. For media coverage purposes, the events will be pooled into: A. Royal Audience Ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman (Royal Palace) ; and B. Royal Procession around Bandar Seri Begawan. Media movement will be restricted, and members of the media will not be able to move from event A to B, and vice versa. Media are required to register for pooling arrangements prior to the events at the IMC. Access to the venues will only be given to media members with the appropriate pool passes. Important Note: The celebration of the 50 th Anniversary of His Majesty s Accession to the Throne will be held on Thursday, 5 th October 2017. 1.4. HOST BROADCASTER Radio Television Brunei (RTB) as the Host Broadcaster for the Golden Jubilee Celebration will provide client broadcasters with international quality television coverage of key events as well as other facilities which is offered through the Rate Card. Important Note: The importation or usage of camera drones is strictly prohibited for the Golden Jubilee Celebration. 1.5. BROADCAST BOOTH Media organisations may hire workspace (Broadcast Booth) and facilities at the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) by completing the Booth Order Form which can be downloaded from www.hmjubliemas.gov.bn. The completed form is to be submitted via fax or email to goldenjubilee@rtb.gov.bn not later than 20 th September 2017. Full payment shall be made to the Host Broadcaster s account by telegraphic transfer or bank draft before orders can be confirmed. Account details will be specified in the invoice. All rates shall be paid in USD. Payment must be received not later than 20 th September 2017, beyond which the booking shall be deemed void. Booths will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The reservation will only be confirmed upon receipt of payment. Please note that a 100% cancellation fee applies in the case of a No Show or if the cancellation made within 7 days or less prior to the start date of the event. 1.6. BROADCAST STANDARD Host Broadcaster will produce and distribute the international signals in HD-SDI 1080i/50 with embedded audio, 16:9. Client Broadcasters recording in SD-SDI standard are advised to bring their respective conversion equipment. 1.7. ON-SITE BOOKING COUNTER The Booking Counter at the IBC will operate from 3-7 October 2017 from 8.00am to 10.00pm. Client Broadcasters may order the television services and uplink services from this Booking Counter. The Booking office will accept cash in Brunei Dollars only. 1.8. TELEVISION FACILITIES AND SERVICES Host Broadcaster provides television facilities and services such as stand-up positions and P2HD tape play-out. The stand-up positions and the tape-play-out will be offered together with the uplink services at a rate as offered in the Satellite Uplink Facilities Rate Card. Client Broadcasters are advised to bring in their respective play-out machines for different tap formats. These facilities are subject to availability and served on a first come, first served basis. 1.14. CUSTOMS CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS Foreign Media are required to carry a detailed list of their equipment including the type, serial numbers and estimated value of the items, including radio communication equipment and the frequency bands. Applicants should attach copies of the equipment list with the Media Accreditation application form. Temporary importation of equipment is allowed subject to Customs approval. The list of equipment must be shown upon arrival at the Brunei International Airport. 1.15. IN-COUNTRY TOURS There will be a Media Familiarisation Trip for media personnel to visit places of interest for a taste of Brunei s culture and lifestyle, which includes visits to Kampong Ayer and Temburong District. This Media Familiarisation Trip is on a first come, first served basis. 7

Brief information on Brunei Darussalam AIR TRAVEL The Brunei International Airport, located in Berakas, is a 15-minute drive from Bandar Seri Begawan. Check-in time is at least three (3) hours before scheduled departure. It is advisable to reconfirm your onward or return flight with the relevant airline before the scheduled departure time. BANKS AND CURRENCY There are a number of international banks operating in the country. Banks are generally open from 9am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 11am on Saturdays. Most banks are government-approved to handle traveller s cheques and currency exchange, and most offer ATMs on international networks. All major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, China Union Pay) are widely accepted throughout the country. The Brunei Dollar is interchangeable with the Singapore Dollar ($1: $1) and both currencies can be used in either country. Rates against other currencies vary daily. They can be exchanged at Banks or Licensed Money Changers throughout the country. BUSINESS HOURS Government offices are open from 7.45am to 12.15pm and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and are closed on Friday and Sunday. Private offices generally work from 8.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and from 8.00am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays. Most shopping centres are open daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm. All offices and business premises are closed on Friday between 12.00 noon to 2.00pm for Friday prayers. CAR HIRE/ TAXI/ WATER TAXI Self-drive or chauffeur-driven cars are available from the hotel reception. Metered taxis can also be arranged through the hotel reception. Another option is through DART - Brunei s first taxi booking App. IOS and Android mobile users may download the DART Mobile Application. Water taxis are the most common form of transport in Kampong Ayer. You may hail a water taxi from jetties situated at the Royal Wharf along the Brunei River. Regular boat services to the Temburong District are also available, operating from 7.45am to 4.00pm daily. For a round trip around Kampong Ayer, the fares are mostly negotiable with the boat operators. However, you may expect to pay $20-25 per boat. 8

CLIMATE Brunei has an equatorial climate all year round, characterised by temperatures ranging from 24 0 to 35 0 Celsius, with high humidity and higher than average rainfall. DRIVING PERMITS Brunei Darussalam recognises international driving permits issued under the 1949 Convention on Road Traffic. Bruneians drive on the left side of the road. The wearing of seat belts for drivers and front passenger is compulsory. ELECTRICAL SUPPLY Voltage is 240V 50Hz. The telephone number is +673 224 2424. LANGUAGE The official language of Brunei is Malay but English is widely spoken. If you need a translator for other languages, you may arrange with the tour operators or the respective embassy. TELECOMMUNICATION The Brunei Darussalam IDD code is +(673). There are three telecommunications companies in Brunei Darussalam namely TelBru Sdn Bhd, DST Communications and Progressif Cellular Sdn. Bhd. that offer various telecommunications services. TIME ZONE Brunei Darussalam is eight hours (+8) ahead of GMT and 16 hours (+16) ahead of US Pacific Standard Time. SMOKING Under Tobacco Order 2005 and its regulations; Prohibition of Smoking in Specified Places and Vehicle [Section 14 and Tobacco (Prohibition in certain places) Notification 2007] include: All Government premises including hospitals, health centres, health clinics and nursing homes All premises or building being used for commercial, industrial or recreational purposes including eating places, internet cafes.
