6 Talk About It Front Entrance Circle Drive Please do not park in the front entrance circle! It is for pickups and drop-offs only. Emergency medical vehicles must have access to our building in the event of an emergency. Volunteers Needed! We are looking for volunteers to assist with activities on weekdays and weekends! This is a perfect opportunity for students, family members, friends or anyone looking to make a meaningful impact. Please contact Jory Brown, Life Enrichment Director, at the front office for more information. Beauty Salon Don t forget to come on down to the Beauty Salon on Tuesdays and get pampered! They offer numerous services at a decent price. Contact Char Case for pricing details. Interesting Pear Facts By Brian Rosso The first pear tree was planted in America in the 1620s. One pear contains only 100 calories. Pears are a good source of vitamin C and fiber. A fresh pear is ripe when the stem area of the pear is soft when gentle pressure is applied. If the middle of the pear is soft to the touch, the pear is overripe. Michigan ranks No. 5 in regard to harvesting pears. The top two pear varieties grown in Michigan are Bartlett and Bosc. Other pear types include: Anjou, sweet with a citrus flavor. Comice, sweet with a buttery taste. Concorde, crunchy with a vanilla flavor. Seckel, small in size and very sweet. Pears are available at all American House locations. Valentine s Day Card Exchange Last month, Residents made 90 Valentine s Day Cards for the 1st graders at Lone Pine Elementary School in West Bloomfield. In exchange, each resident received a handmade Valentine s Card. Thank you to everyone who participated. Job well done!! Cooking Club Residents were able to pick from selected ingredients to create their own cheese ball. After their creation was complete, some residents stayed to taste test while others decided to take it back to their apartment for a late-night snack. If you were not able to join, please mark your calendars for March 9th at 10:30 when we meet again to make another delicious snack/treat. Also, if you have any recipe ideas that you are interested in having the group make, please coordinate with Jory.

7 Valentine s Day Celebration Please Note: American House Tree of Love On this tree, small hearts were placed to represent each resident. During the event, residents enjoyed searching for their name while we celebrated Valentine s Day as a one big family. Valentine s King & Queen! Wally K. and Gerry S. Dry Cleaning To use the drycleaning service, bring your items to the front office. Barb visits on Wednesdays for pickup and drop-off. Meal Alternate Requests Please remember meal substitution request forms for dinner and supper must be completed and turned in by 10 a.m. on the day the substitute meal is desired.
