Purpose Statement Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the major disorders seen in veteran patients by VHA/DoD clinicians. With the new clinical practice guidelines for CKD, there is a knowledge gap in key areas related to the management of patients with CKD. This knowledge based activity is directed towards various professional groups caring for patients with chronic kidney disease, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and dietitians. The purpose of the broadcast is to introduce primary care team members to the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Chronic Kidney Disease in Primary Care; identify implications of the guideline for VA and DoD patient populations; and describe how to integrate the use of the guideline into primary care practice. Outcome/Objectives At the conclusion of this educational program, learners will be able to: 1. Identify key elements of the VA/DoD CKD practice guideline. 2. Discuss implications of the VA/DoD CKD practice guideline for the DoD s population. 3. Discuss implications of the VA/DoD CKD practice guideline for the VA s population. 4. Describe how to integrate use of the VA/DoD CKD practice guideline into primary care provider and team daily practice. 5. Identify appropriate pharmaceutical issues that are unique for the patient with CKD. Accreditation/Approval The accreditation organizations for this course are listed below. Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) The VA Employee Education System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) VA Employee Education System is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Continuing Education Credit Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) The VA Employee Education System designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This course provides Category 1 AMA Physicians Recognition Award CME credit (ACCME) for physicians.
