Page 9 Volunteer Banquet Reaches Milestone Volunteers are the heartbeat of 4-H! And each fall we like to take a few moments to truly thank the many advisors and volunteers that make our organization the success it is! As we have in years past, we invite all organizational advisors, club advisors, committee representatives, and general volunteers to a special banquet held in honor of the dedication you give to 4-H the Annual Miami County 4-H Volunteer Banquet! This year marks the 70th anniversary of this event. In recognition of this milestone, we would like to compile a PowerPoint presentation for that evening. We are asking for photos of volunteers over the past 70 years. Please include their name, club, committee, camp, or activity in which they were involved. Photos may be emailed to woods.372@osu.edu or dropped off at the Extension Office. This year s banquet will be held on Monday, October 10th at 6:00 pm at the Riverside Developmental Disabilities Gymnasium in Troy. Dinner will be provided free to those who have served with us over the last year. If you would like to bring a guest, there is a minimal fee for their meal but they are welcome to join you. All registrations must be received by September 30th. We will be unable to accept late registrations.
Page 2 September/October, 2016 In Memorium Our hearts were deeply saddened when in late July we lost two beacons of the Miami County 4-H family Bill and Mary Ann Cusac. The Cusacs touched innumerable lives during their unfailing commitment and service to 4-H that spanned more than four decades. In 1964, Bill became an advisor with the Staunton Hustlers 4-H Club. Mary Ann later joined him as an advisor of the same club in 1966 and became an advisor for Staunton Busy Bodies 4-H Club that same year. In 1996, we began awarding Volunteer of the Year and Alumni of the Year awards at the Miami County 4-H Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Bill was the recipient of the first Alumni of the Year Award. In 1999, Mary Ann received the Volunteer of the Year Award. In 1998, we began presenting the Club of the Year award at the banquet. Staunton Hustlers 4-H Club received the award in 1999 and 2001. However, their dedication went beyond their 4-H clubs, they also served on numerous committees and worked with the Miami County 4-H camping program. Indeed they will be greatly missed. The Cusacs will be recognized at this year s banquet. The family has established a fund to create a memorial to the Cusacs at the Miami County Fairgrounds. Plans include a bench, a shade tree, recycling/trash container and wind chimes. Contributions may be made to the Mary Ann Cusac Memorial Fund and sent or left at Wright-Patt Credit Union, 2501 W. Main St., Troy, OH 45373. Club completion reports are due to the Extension Office by September 15 th each year. Organizational Advisors review the criteria and each child s participation to determine if they have completed the 2016 year. Please remember that doing a 4-H project includes finishing the project book information after the completion of the project. For example, those members with livestock animals who participated in the Miami County Fair should fill out the information in reference to the sale or non-sale of their animals. Advisors check members project/record books for completeness. Also note: Members and Advisors who joined the program after the Miami County 4-H Club enrollment deadline are not eligible for completion certifications. Members can be recognized with a participation certificate. Please contact the Extension Office if you have any questions regarding completion requirements. 4-H Club Financial Review Packets are due each year on January 15th. Because that date falls on a Sunday in 2017, packets will be accepted at the Extension Office until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16th. In order to comply with State 4-H regulations and according to the Miami County 4-H Club Advisor Handbook and Guidelines (Section 7, 7.2 Reporting and Completion), clubs are required to prepare a financial review packet annually. A checklist will be emailed to Organizational Advisors who have emails listed by December 1st. All other Organizational Advisors will receive the checklist through the mail. Club Completions Club Financial Review Packets 2016 to December 31, 2016. (Please do not worry if you don t have the bank statements for December 2016.
