St. Charles Preparatory School News & Upcoming Events: April and May 2017 Edition We invite you to... - Visit the St. Charles Website: www.stcharlesprep.org - Follow St. Charles on Twitter at https://twitter.com/stcharlescards - Visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stcharlespreparatoryschool - Join St. Charles Preparatory School Alumni on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&gid=152022&trk=anet_ug_hm --- Help St. Charles recognize and honor those graduates who have, and continue to, serve and protect us --- St. Charles will soon be hosting its annual An Evening With gala, initiated by alumnus Bob Walter 63 and his wife, Peggy. At this event, themed A Night with Heroes, we will recognize ALL those alumni who presently, or in the past, have served in any of the branches of the Armed Forces as well as those who have served and protected us in the role of police officer, firefighter or EMS personnel. To do this we need YOUR help to compile all these names. We are asking the Carolian Community to help notify us of any alumni family members or alumni classmates --- either living and deceased -- from the first graduating class in 1927 up through to present day -- who serve/have served and protected us in these first-responder roles. So are you graduate who has served in one of these roles? Has/does your alumnus father, grandfather or son served in one of these professions or a military veteran? Do you know of a fellow classmate who has served in the Armed Forces or as a police officer, firefighter, and/or EMS personnel? If so, please send their names and what information you have on their service to alumni director Louis J. Fabro 83 at lfabro@cdeducation.org. You may also leave him a message at 614-252-9288 ext. 21 with news of anyone we should include on our list. Thank you for your help and Thank You to our Heroes! --- Register for the 2017 Father/Son Mass & Breakfast on April 29th --- Registration is underway for the 2017 St. Charles Father/Son Mass & Breakfast on Saturday, April 29th. This annual fraternal gathering, sponsored by St. Charles Alumni Association, continues to grow in popularity and drew over 300 dads and sons last year. It is a wonderful way for alumni fathers, uncles, and grandfathers to celebrate their St. Charles experience and introduce young sons and grandsons to the school! We ALSO invite and encourage current students, incoming freshmen and any other interested 6th, 7th or 8th graders, to attend, along with their fathers, grandfathers and uncles. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated in Mother of Mercy Chapel followed by a complimentary buffet breakfast (prepared by Bosc + Brie) in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons.

The breakfast is free, but you are still asked to reserve your spot(s) to ensure there is plenty of food on hand for everyone. To sign up or for more information on this or any other alumni activity, please contact St. Charles alumni director Louis J. Fabro '83 in the school's Alumni and Development Office at lfabro@cdeducation.org. --- Do you live in the Cleveland/Akron Area? How about the Charlotte, NC area? Hey alumni, we're coming for a visit! --- On Saturday, May 6th, St. Charles will host an inaugural alumni gathering at the home of a 1958 Prep School graduate, Matt Howard, in the Charlotte area. This "executive picnic" will run from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and feature cold refreshments, grilled burgers and brats. On Thursday, May 25th, St. Charles administrators, faculty and staff members are making the drive for an alumni and friends gathering at the Great Lakes Brewery in Downtown Cleveland where guests will enjoy great beer, appetizers and a behind-the scenes facilities tour. The event runs 5:00-8:00 p.m. Principal Jim Lower encourages anyone in those areas -- as well as in the Columbus area -- to join us at these Carolian get-togethers. He will be joined by a number of St. Charles faculty, staff and Advisory Board members and share with the group the goings-on as well as news of the outstanding students/athletes and facilities at St. Charles. There is no charge to attend either event, but you are still asked to reserve your spot(s) to ensure there is plenty of food on hand for everyone. Invitations are being sent to those in the Cleveland/Charlotte areas, so if you live nearby and did not receive one, please let us know! To sign up, or for more information please contact St. Charles Development Officer Michael Welsch at mwelsch@cdeducation.org. Note: Keep your eyes open for more information regarding other upcoming Road Trips, including visits to Chicago (Fri., June 9 th ) and Cincinnati (Sun., July 23 rd ). --- 17 Combined Reunion: Committees formed and Organizational Meeting Held; Classes making weekend activity plans --- The Combined Reunion Weekend has been scheduled for September 1 &2, 2017 for the Classes of 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 & 2012 Just a reminder of the reunion plans to date: On Friday night, September 1st, all reunion alumni are invited to the weekend s main event: The All-Classes Stag Beer-n-Brats gathering from 6:00 11:00 p.m. in the Robert C. Jim Lower will give a State of the School update. Note: The STAG is ALUMNI ONLY, NO GUESTS/WIVES/GIRLFRIENDS PLEASE. On Saturday, September 2nd, there will be a morning bike ride along the Alum Creek Bike Trail at 9:00 a.m., a campus tour from 3:00-4:15 p.m. and an All-Classes Mass in Mother of Mercy Chapel at 4:30 p.m. for alumni & spouses/guests. Afterward, classes will organize their own private dinner gatherings. There are no formal plans for any activities on Sunday, September 3rd. The Alumni Golf Outing will be held later in the month. In March Alumni Director Louis J. Fabro 83 met with representatives from the 12 classes celebrating five-year reunions to discuss the planning each of the private class functions on Saturday night following that day s Campus Program ; locating those classmates for whom the school has no contact information; and discussing a Class Gift. He also shared the details about the services he will be providing for each of the participating classes, including: creating, printing, and mailing all class letters at no charge to the class; coordinating Friday s STAG; planning Saturday tours and Mass; collecting and tracking all reservations/payments made for reunion events; and collecting biographical information from classmates to possibly combine into a commemorative program. If you would like to represent your class, help organize a Saturday Night private class gathering, help the school locate lost alumni and reach out to classmates to encourage their attendance, please contact Louis by e-mail at lfabro@cdeducation.org or by phone at 614-252-9288 ext. 21. ---- Upcoming Alumni Items of Importance ---- --SC Welcomes Aquinas Alumni Association to Campus for Catered Lunch, to meet Fr.
