2. Case Management Reducing the cost of sickness The Centre for Economics and Business Research puts the cost of long term sickness absence in the UK at 3.1billion per annum. The average annual cost of employee absence per employee is 600. 1. Health Surveillance Recognising early signs of work related ill health Health surveillance is used to identify and monitor early signs of work-related ill health in employees exposed to certain hazards at work. An effective health surveillance programme provided by a specialist occupational health provider ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and demonstrates a responsible employer s commitment to the health and wellbeing of their workforce. Employers will be familiar with the relevant UK workplace legislation, but may also have internal or global standards they would wish to meet in addition to the regulatory requirements. IOM provides a comprehensive range of health surveillance services, delivered peripatetically throughout the UK, underpinned by our Quality Management System and clinically supervised by our Lead Occupational Physician. Managing and Reducing Sickness There is no doubt that sound and effective absence management is enhanced by robust and business focused occupational health. At IOM we are able to undertake management referrals that reduce time lost by establishing, through triage, a referral pathway that is both expeditious and cost effective, that reflects an understanding of your business and provides comprehensive and realistic advice that enables management and HR to take appropriate action. Ill-Health Retirement IOM is able to provide comprehensive advice and guidance on ill health related retirement. Our Consultant Occupational Physicians have many years experience in dealing with such cases and have particular expertise with the Local Government Pension Scheme and Teachers Pensions. Our advice will be well informed, robust and will enable Trustees and Pension Administrators to make appropriate decisions. 3. Health and Wellbeing Promoting and enhancing the health of your people IOM seek to provide health and wellbeing activities that recognise the budgetary, cultural and operational needs of your business. Our approach is to build our response around identified occupational health issues within your organisation. These issues may arise through sickness absence management, as a result of an ageing workforce or a particular function of your operation. Our activities will be designed to raise the profile of health and embed a culture of awareness and understanding of the benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Consultancy Services Guiding best practice in the workplace IOM has a long history of providing comprehensive and high quality advisory services in all disciplines of occupational health and safety. Our specialist occupational health clinicians can provide the following services: Occupational Health Needs Review including applying our specialist knowledge of health surveillance to your business needs Support for public health issues e.g. pandemic and avian flu, TB Chief Medical Officer role for in-house provision or for advisory, audit and governance purposes Stress and Mental Health in the Workplace In 2011 stress became the number one cause of workplace absence for the first time this trend has continued. The trend has been exacerbated by the rise in presenteeism a result of job insecurity and rising workloads. The CIPD Survey of 2012 suggests workload is the primary cause of work-related stress. IOM can help your business understand the extent and effect of stress and mental ill health in the workplace. We can advise on the outcome of stress risk assessments and design a response, that may be delivered in the form of stress awareness or resilience training, but which reflects the particular stressors, business drivers and culture of your organisation. 6. Health Assessments Ensuring the health and well-being of your workforce Throughout the period of employment, it is important to establish procedures that can alert the company and the employee to any health issues that may impact on the ability of the employee to undertake his or her duties and ensure that such activities will not contribute to the deterioration of any pre-existing condition. Our Screening Services cater for all stages of employment and include:- Pre-placement (On-site; Off-Site) Safety Critical Worker Night Worker Management referrals Vision screening Confined Spaces and Working at Height assessments FLT driving medicals DSE workstation assessments At IOM we can advise on, and provide an appropriate preplacement programme for your business. Questionnaires can be paper-based, or submitted and processed on line. Our questionnaires and subsequent advice will reflect best practice and requirements under the Equality Act. Where indicated, paper screening and online screening can be supported by telephone consultation or physical baseline screening, which can be carried out peripatetically or at one of our clinics. 5. Vaccination Services Occupational and Travel Vaccines IOM can provide a number of vaccination services both on-site and at one of our local centres. Our services include: Hepatitis B vaccination Flu vaccination programmes Business travel vaccination and advice IOM operate a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre at our Luton clinic and can provide a comprehensive advisory service and appropriate vaccinations from our local clinics. All of our vaccination programmes are underpinned by our Quality Management System and meet the highest standards of clinical audit and care.
