Before you submit your application form, online, please read the eligibility guidelines. You are encouraged to contact Events Tasmania to confirm eligibility before submitting your application. About Events Tasmania Events are an incredibly important part of the visitor economy. They create a trigger for travel, promote regional dispersal of visitors and generate fantastic stories and images that in turn increase people s desire to visit Tasmania. Housed within the Department of State Growth, Events Tasmania delivers part of the Tasmanian Government Events Strategy 2015-2020; to deliver a balanced events portfolio that enhances Tasmania s reputation as a tourism destination. Events supported through Events Tasmania return around $100 million to the Tasmanian economy each year, as well as creating jobs and engendering pride in our state. Our support and funding programs have been developed to maintain a balanced events portfolio that: attracts people to Tasmania; supporting the joint strategy between the tourism industry and government to increase visitor numbers to Tasmania to 1.5 million per year by 2020; encourages Tasmanians to move around the state; and gets people talking about Tasmania through their own circles of influence. About the program Established in 2002, the Events Tasmania Grants Program has provided funds to over 1000 events. Funding is available through the Events Tasmania Grants Program this year under the following grant categories: Touring grants Marketing Tasmania grants Championship grants One-off Assistance grants More information about the Events Tasmania Grants Program is available at www.eventstasmania.com/grants. About Marketing Tasmania grants Events Tasmania is committed to increasing the number of people coming to Tasmania, getting visitors and locals travelling around the state, and getting everybody talking about Tasmania. By increasing and focusing the marketing activity of events outside their own region, we can jointly achieve these outcomes while promoting and maximising the attendance at your event. The Marketing Tasmania grant program is designed to cater for both large and small events, with the two new tiers of funding providing options for events with either intrastate or interstate visitation targets. Once you ve identified who your target market is, the Marketing Tasmania grants can help you to deliver your marketing activity. Events Tasmania is offering grants of up to $10 000 in funding which must be matched equally by the event organisers. For example, if your marketing activity costs $6 000 (after any in-kind contributions), you can apply to Events Tasmania for $3 000 and provide the matching $3 000 yourselves. The following table will help you to define which tier of funding you can apply for: Tier 1 Applicants applying through Tier 1 are undertaking intrastate marketing activity seeking to attract visitors from outside their region. Up to $5000 in matched funding is available Intrastate marketing focus Broad understanding of target audience and how to communicate with them Defined marketing activity Tier 2 Applicants applying through Tier 2 are undertaking interstate marketing activity seeking to attract visitors from outside Tasmania. Up to $10,000 in matched funding is available Interstate marketing focus In depth understanding of target audience and know exactly how to communicate with them Clearly defined marketing activity with a supporting marketing strategy 3
The Marketing Tasmania grants will support your event to approach and attract a specific target market so as to bring more people to Tasmania, get more visitors and locals travelling to a Tasmanian regional area, and importantly get people talking about Tasmania. Successful applicants will be event organisers who: Understand who their target market is Demonstrate a knowledge of how to market their event Can commit to matched grant funding on a 1:1 basis Marketing Tasmania grants are assessed within competitive grant rounds, grant funding is limited, and demand for this program is high. Marketing Tasmania grants are not intended to provide general support for an event or organisation, or be a contribution towards your event s overall marketing plan. They are provided for the delivery of a specific event marketing activity within an event or event organisation. Details of your specific event marketing activity will be the core component of your grant application. The event and proposed marketing activity must be completed by the end of 2018. Preference will be given to quality applications that can demonstrate how the proposed event and associated marketing project will drive visitation to regional parts of the state outside of the high tourism season. Application assessment A panel of marketing and specialists will assess applications on a qualitative basis. Assessment criteria Demonstrated understanding of the target audience. The quality and feasibility of the marketing activity and project outcomes. Demonstrated capacity to deliver effective marketing activity. Applicants can be based anywhere in Australia, and must be able to enter into a funding agreement with the Tasmanian Government. Remember that preference will be given to projects that offer substantial regional and seasonal benefits to Tasmania. Reasons you may not be eligible for a grant Our funding programs don t support conferences, conventions, symposiums, trade fairs, fundraising events, expos and events that are primarily a showcase for stall-holders to demonstrate, promote or sell services or products. If your event already receives Events Tasmania funding through our other funding programs you are not eligible for funding from the Grants Program for the same event. 4
