Wellness Workshop This is the second year we jointed force with Hong Kong Housing Society in providing 6-week series workshop regarding diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome for elderly in 3 different housing estate including Moon Lok Da Ha, Bo Shek Mansion, and Kwun Lung Lau. There were about 42 senior citizens in total. Workshops included not only health screening,lectures and dietary advice but also exercise and cooking demonstration.
Healthy Community In order to build a healthy community in Tsuen Wan, Lifestyle Management Center started a pioneer project in Tsuen King Circuit this year. Program includes free services as basic health screening, health and behavior survey, home safety and health education game booths, cooking demonstration and health talk. Our purpose is to understand the health status of the residents and assist them to develop a healthy lifestyle. Through the information collected, we will find out the leading health problem in different housing estates and provide follow-up program. To enrich the program, we have jointed with different organization including Tsuen Wan Safe and Healthy Community Steering Committee, Housing Society Elderly Resources Centre, Caritas Wellness Link Tsuen Wan, Tsuen Wan Fire Station, New Territories South Traffic Headquarters, and Mountain View Church. With the cooperation of different organizations, a more comprehensive program was provided that met the aspects of health, personal and home safety, and spiritual health. Community health Screening Beside Tsuen King Circuit project, we continued to serve the community in Tsuen Wan area and other social welfare organization. We have been to schools and elderly centers, community centers, housing estates and Fu Hong Society Shek Wai Kok workshop. We provided health screening and consultation to approximately 900 participants. Organizations like S.K.H. Chu Oi Primary School, Fu Hong Society Shek Wai Kok workshop and Yuen Yuen Institution etc. were given health screening in the previous year. We compared their result and had a better understanding of their health status in order to give better health advice. Exercise Class This the sixth year of our stretching class. From one class with15-20 participants, we are now having 3 classes with 75-80 participants to meet the need of the community and our staffs. Also, as requested and to provide moreintense exercise, we added Pilates and weight training class from September. Due to the overwhelming response, the first course is full. The enthusiastic support from the community and our staffs are highly appreciated. We are glad to see them having more opportunity to exercise together.
Hiking There were totally four hiking trip in 2016. All the trips were lead by professional hiking coach. In 2016, we brought the hikers to places with special spots like reed field, along seaside, seasonal flowers and waterfall etc. Therefore, participants are required to have advance hiking experience.
Cooking Class Cooking class has been held once a month. This year, chef CheungChi Keung taught the participants to make traditional dishes from different countries such as Chinese like Shanghai and Beijing style, Korean, Malaysian, and Italian etc. including appetizer, main course anddessert, in a healthy way and introduced some new vegetarian dishes as well.
Dementia Seminar and Workshop Jointed with Hong Kong Adventist College Dementia Seminar in May, total participants: 290, took place at Hong Kong Central Library Raised awareness and concern about dementia and Alzheimer s disease. 4 follow-up workshops, 100 participants Workshops including health lecture, exercise, cognitive and memory training activities.
