Buildings and boats alike have streams of lights and decorated wreaths to help spread joy throughout the holiday season. With Christmas right around the corner, on behalf of the Bridge, I would to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Although the past year has had its challenges, the squadron has continued on its mission to help educate the boating public and help make boating a little safer for all. The Basic Boating courses, the Powerboat On-The-Water program and the abundance of seminars have helped both members and non-members learn a little more about the ins and outs of boating. This year we also tried to do a better job promoting the squadron by kicking off a new marketing campaign. The mission was to increase the squadron s visibility in local trade shows and with both local boatyards and boat dealers. The new marketing approach includes professionally designed and printed advertising materials along with helpful guides to be available to the boating public, all with the BBSPS logos. We also released a formal Annual Report of squadron activities which will be helpful in promoting ourselves with our local municipalities, the business communities and within the Cape Cod marine industry. To better meet your expectations, a member survey was initiated to solicit and listen to what you our members are looking for in the squadron. The survey provided some great feedback that will now become the roadmap for planning activities in 2018 and beyond. A condensed version of the results is provided in this newsletter. And finally, as we end 2017, we find ourselves to be in good financial shape allowing us to better invest in our membership. A year of challenges but also a year of successes thanks to the support of our membership and the hard work of your officers. Thank you for all your input and support! After all, we have all joined the squadron because we enjoy boating, we enjoy talking about boats and we enjoy helping others learn more about safe boating. This is what draws us together as a squadron and is what makes the squadron work! Now that the boats are all covered and ready for that long winter s nap, it s time to turn our attention to the next boating season. Merry Christmas and good sailing, Frank Lingard 3
