Live Tales Creative Lead Live Theatre (North East Theatre Trust Ltd) Application Pack Live Tales Creative Lead Role Live Theatre s award-winning work with Children and Young People is growing. We are embarking on an exciting period of development and growth specifically with Live Tales, our flagship story and scriptwriting writing programme for young people. Live Theatre is looking for a committed individual to join our small, resourceful and hardworking team as the Live Tales Creative Lead. Working as part of the Creative Programme team you will be responsible for the development and delivery of Live Tales working out of our purpose-built studios in both Newcastle and Sunderland. Live Tales is a significant element of our Children and Young Peoples programme. Live Tales workshops inspire children and young people to embrace creativity and build confidence through a mixture of drama and writing activities. Live Tales story writing workshops for Key Stage 2 were launched at Live Theatre in Newcastle in September 2016. In April 2018, Live Tales sessions started at Sunderland Fire Station and from September 2018, the offer will be extended to include scriptwriting workshops for Key Stage 3. For more information, see www.live.org.uk/livetales Live Theatre s work with young people was recognised with an Outstanding Contribution Award at the North East Youth Work Awards and in early 2018 awarded Investors in Children status for its child-led approach. It has the largest free drama education and participation programme in the region. Live Theatre Live Theatre has an international reputation as a new writing theatre. As well as producing and presenting new plays, it seeks out and nurtures creative talent. 1

One of the most fertile crucibles of new writing The Guardian A high proportion of Live Theatre s work regularly tours to other venues across the UK and internationally, including to Broadway and the Melbourne Festival. Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour, written by Lee Hall and co-produced with National Theatre of Scotland, won an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2017 and The Red Lion by Patrick Marber, starring Stephen Tompkinson, was nominated for an Olivier Award 2018 for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre. Live Theatre is British Theatre s best kept secret. [It] has supported generation after generation of new writers, actors and theatre artists. Lee Hall, Playwright Located on Newcastle upon Tyne s Quayside, theatre is based in a carefully restored complex of five Grade II listed buildings, combining state-of-the-art facilities in a unique historical setting with a flexible and welcoming theatre space, studio, rehearsal room and writers rooms. Live Theatre draws on a broad portfolio of income streams and is recognised as a national leader in developing new strategies for increasing income and assets. These include The Schoolhouse, a hub for creative businesses; Live Garden, a beautiful outdoor performance space; Live Tales, a centre for children and young people s creative writing; and Live Works, a commercial office building which has won architectural awards from RIBA and the Civic Trust. Live Theatre receives a percentage of the income from award-winning gastro pub The Broad Chare and from Head of Steam, Quayside. Live Theatre is funded by Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation and receives financial support from Newcastle City Council through the Newcastle Culture Investment Fund managed by the Community Foundation, and from other trusts and foundations, corporate partners and Friends. Live Tales Creative Lead Job Description Live Theatre (North East Theatre Trust Ltd) Job Title: Department: Salary Band: Job Purpose: Line Manager: Responsible for: Creative Lead: Live Tales Creative Programme Team Band 4 18,360-23,460 (FT) This role is part time working 4 days per week, 0.8 equivalent The creative development and delivery of Live Tales. The delivery of agreed elements of the Children and Young Peoples Programme Children & Young People s Programme Lead N/A Key Responsibilities: 1 To develop and deliver Live Tales as part of Live Theatre s creative programme in line with Live Theatre s mission and business plan. 2 To delivery of agreed elements of the Creative Programme 3 To build and maintain positive working relationships with: all colleagues in Live Theatre, individuals, artists, partners and organisations in the wider creative, cultural, public, private and charitable sectors locally, nationally and internationally. 4 To ensure that this post holder: is trained and equipped to fulfil their responsibilities, including the use of all Live Theatre s core ICT programmes takes personal responsibility for their own continuous professional development, learning and training on an annual basis. Duties: Duties associated with each key responsibility 1 a) To deliver and develop Live Tales project to ensure its quality and reputation match that of the wider creative Programme b) To review the content, relevance and reach of the project c) To ensure its content, relevance and reach evolves to deepen the engagement of schools and teachers in writing progression 3

d) To benchmark the content of the Live Tales project with the wider international community of writing centres and recommend innovation to the Creative Programme accordingly 2 a) To develop the delivery of the CYP Programme including a number of CYP projects, workshops and activities as agreed with the Artistic Director b) To ensure accurate records are maintained for each project 3 a) To work with internal colleagues and external partners on joint projects e.g. tours and co-productions, to build and maintain positive relationships that lead to the organisation delivering programmes of high quality and critically acclaimed work b) To keep abreast of national and international trends and best practice in education and participation and reflect this in the delivery of Live Tales and the wider creative programme into Lives practice c) To establish, maintain and develop contacts with education and learning practitioners both regionally and nationally, including the network of national creative writing centres 4 a) To support and contribute to the annual strategic objectives for your area of responsibility b) Ensuring regular meetings with your line manager enable you to complete your tasks satisfactorily and that an annual appraisal identifies your training and development needs to assist/lead your progress. c) Contributing to the creation of a productive and empowering working environment that enables you to perform to your highest potential. d) Ensure this post holder takes personal responsibility for their own continuous professional development, learning and training on an annual basis.
