In order to support companies in their search for new markets, in 2003 the city of Unterschleissheim opened an office in China in cooperation with the ICU and then, in 2006, they developed an economic partnership in the Zelenograd prefecture of Moscow in Russia. In cooperation with ICU e.v., the city of Unterschleissheim has set up an office in Hangzhou to establish the best contacts. The office in the capitol city of the Zhejiang province is also the point of contact for Chinese firms that wish to establish offices in Unterschleissheim or the Munich metropolitan area. It is supervised by the German law firm Weiler & Partners, which specializes in the Chinese market. They have access to choice contacts with Chinese authorities, state organizations, trade associations and support delegation trips from and to China. 16
center for economics, politics and culture Brief profile of Hangzhou Hangzhou, the capitol of the Chinese province Zhejiang, is one of the most important Chinese growth markets and is also world-renowned for its rich cultural heritage and its wonderful location on a lagoon. The lively metropolis has approximately six million inhabitants, is only 190 kilometers from Shanghai and is regarded as a center for economics, politics and culture. The IT industry is of great importance here. Hangzhou is a growth market for companies that are repositioning their business segments and are interested in China. INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE Zelenograd ICU office Russia Our office in Zelenograd/Russia Russia and especially Moscow are booming. Therefore, since 2002, the city of Unterschleissheim and the ICU e.v. have cultivated an active exchange with the prefecture of Zelenograd, located near the Moscow airport. In 2004, this alliance was strengthened with a cooperation agreement. The excellent collaborations with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), as well as companies and institutions in Moscow and Bavaria are very valuable in both cooperation and transfer of knowledge. Thanks to the offices in Unterschleissheim and Zelenograd, these communes are optimally networked. Russian-Bavarian Round Table Discussions Within the scope of the technology atlas Bavaria-Moscow and the Moscow economic conference in Bavaria, round table discussions have been taking place in Unterschleissheim since 2004. Participants have included the vice mayor of the city of Moscow, Yury Roslyak, and the prefect of Zelenograd, Anatoly Smirnov. 18
Promotion of IT and medical technology Moscow business centre in Unterschleissheim Russian companies are looking more and more to Central Europe and in particular to Bavaria. Thanks to the cooperation with Zelenograd, Unterschleissheim was chosen from among 13 cities as the location for the planned Moscow business center. With this center, the formation and promotion of small and mid-sized companies in the areas of nano and energy technology, the aerospace industry, as well as IT technology and software, medical technology, telemedicine and food processing are being encouraged.
