WHY GIVE TO USNA? 1. Government funds the core mission but private donations fund USNA strategic priorities that provide the margin of excellence for the Academy. 2. Examples: ü The Annual Fund ü ü ü ü Leadership & Ethics Programs The Center for Academic Excellence The Brigade Sports Complex International programs

The Class of 72 has a good giving history w/usna The Class of 72 has provided about $6.23 Million in giving through the end of 2016 to the following projects: The Gate 3, Richard Glen Been Memorial Water Fountain (Rich was killed on August 25, 1975 in an F-4 air crash while attempting to land on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt). The Mahan Hall Piano The Rip Miller Field Press Box The Navy/Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Cold War Battle Arch The Distinguished Military Professor for Character (over $2.2 Million to-date) The Naval Academy Annual Fund ($1.7 Million) Our overall rate of participation: ~ 22% of class!

Survey Response 600 + e-mails sent out 90 responses (approx. 15%). Considered good Survey Monkey Results: What you said to us Key results & ranking (added very likely & likely responses together): The DMP for Character: 71% The Naval Academy Annual Fund: 62% support Project-Based Learning: 49% support Physical Mission Center (naming opportunity for the class): 44% support. Qualitative comments (not included): 90% positive Many classmates indicating they are prepared to increase their pledge for our last campaign. Significant interest in funding the Physical Mission Center (a subset of the Athletic Excellence Fund) because of the naming opportunity for the class. Pre-campaign verbal commitments w/key classmates indicate strong financial support for the class to achieve a significant milestone.

Class of 1972 50 th Legacy Gift/Class Project One anonymous classmate is prepared to make a major commitment to the campaign: Will commit to a dollar-for-dollar challenge to the rest of the class to match their contributions, with a cap of $2.5 Million. If the class raises $2.5 Million, he ll match it = $ 5 Million (but he will ONLY match what we give!) His personal priority is the class naming opportunity for the Sports Performance & Rehabilitation Facility, (but will support ALL projects) Other classmates have already indicated a level of verbal support for another (approx.) $1 Million. We therefore have the potential to fund several projects and achieve a significant financial goal for the class!

Class of 1972 50 th Legacy Gift/Class Project Based on class feedback and indications from top donors, here are our chosen goals and projects: USNA Annual Fund: $ 750,000 1972 Athletic Facility & Excellence Fund: $2,500,000 1972 DMP for Character Development Fund: $1,000,000 1972 Project-Based Learning Fund: $ 750,000 TOTAL $5,000,000 PARTICIPATION RATE GOAL: 50%

Class of 72 Project Fundraising Proposed Timeline 2017/2018 Planning Calendar JUN JUL AUG SEPT OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUNE Solicit Major Donor Input on Project Goals Define project components & financial goals 45 th Reunion update to class Pre-campaign w/ major donors 1 calls Sign MOU w/ Foundation for support Communications w/class on goals Segment the class: major donors 2 calls Conduct class solicitation Campaign finishes (except for followup calls) Campaign solicitation calls ends by summer

Summary Campaign will run from 2018 => 2022 (five years) We re seeking five-year pledges: Ø Example: $2000 per year = $10,000 in total Ø Matched by our anonymous classmate ($20,000 in value) For those w/mutual funds, etc. consider donating appreciated equities or IRA-Charity Rollover Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) are the best tax option Appreciated equities also an advantage over cash Let s make this (last) legacy campaign one that will be remembered!
