Mullalley Nevada 101.08 V Harold Muilenburg South Dakota 102.78 Planting the Seeds for an Enduring Legacy When Thomas R. Blake, U.S. Air Force veteran of Korea died not long ago, he was buried wearing his life membership pin on his lapel. In addition to the services the DAV provides, Blake was always proud to remember his service and represent the DAV at patriotic events and holidays. It is undeniable that he knew the value of membership. And there s no doubt that being a member was important to him. There are many among us who will do their utmost to honor our membership and service when we pass on, just as we honor our brothers and sisters for their contributions when they pass. Yet, everything we do today in service of our fellow veterans builds upon the legacy for which we will all be remembered. Our involvement in meetings, service and outreach to our fellow veterans is meaningful and critical. Just as it was for Thomas R. Blake, who represents that undying devotion that lives on in the hearts of those we leave behind. The membership year is coming to a close. And we will start anew. In doing so, let s look at the legacy of our organization. There are chapters this year that could surpass their recruiting goal if they only had two or three members decide to make the commitment to full life membership. As we inspire our fellow veterans to join, let s look at ways we can plant a seed that will help us exceed our goals for the future. Let s reach out to the members in our network who can become more involved. Let s ask them, for the good of our chapters, to try and make regular payments toward their life membership. Let s ask new members if they are willing, especially after we ve provided our valuable service, to make a full commitment to join the organization. At the end of the day, they will be glad they did. They will feel a sense of commitment that will serve us long into the future. Meanwhile, you ll be planting the seeds for a bountiful harvest for many years to come.
