Charlottesville, Virginia Proudly Serving the Cause of Patriotism At a meeting of James Monroe Chapter No. 549, held at the home of Brother Goldie and Lady Sara Tomlin in Nellysford, Virginia on Wednesday the 7 th of June 2017, with the following present: Goldie Tomlin Jim Fields Scott Fielding Ed Crebbs Kent Schlussel HarveyFleshman James Starcher Fred Soutter Bill Baskerville Terry Ellison Jeff Hodges Visitors: None Ladies present: Susan Hodges, Sara Tomlin, Charlaine Crebbs, Sylvia Fielding, Judy Schlussel Opening: President Crebbs called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm in proper form. Before the meeting, a social gathering with dinner started at 6:30pm. Brother Jeff Hodges gave the blessing before the dinner at 7:00pm. The meal was prepared by the Tomlin s. There was plenty of food (main course was smoked beef brisket with several sides) and everyone enjoyed the delicious meal. Officers present were: President: Ed Crebbs; First Vice President: Jim Fields; 2nd Vice President: Scott Fielding; and Secretary/Treasurer: Kent Schlussel. Purpose: President read the Purpose of the Order followed by the opening prayer led by the chaplain, Brother Snodgrass. Introductions: President welcomed everyone. Reading of Minutes: The minutes of the April 2017 meeting were approved as distributed to the members via email. Motion to accept was made, seconded and passed. Report of Treasurer: Checking Account Balance: Current as of 5 April 2017: $4402.53 Camp Followers Fund: $105.68 Chapter Fund: $1793.47

Increase of $209.04 Flag Fund: $50.24 Youth Leadership Fund: $918.97 Donation +$20.00 Unrestricted Fund: $1534.17 TOTAL: $4402.53 A spreadsheet for the year s activities were given to the members for their review. Bro Bill moved and seconded by Bro Goldie to eliminate the Flag Fund and put the money into the Youth Leadership fund. There has been no activity for the Flag Fund in several years. Motion passed. Reading of Communications: --Received the announcement on the 2017 Federal Area Conference and Encampment (FACE) to be held on Friday, August 11 th 12 th, 2017 at Kena Shrine Temple. Announcements: Chapter: 1) Brother Goldie Tomlin will lead the annual Toys for Tots program for 2017. 2) Brother Baskerville mentioned that the business below the Masonic Temple in Charlottesville, the Tap Room, has given any tips they receive to various charities. We should contact them and have Toys of Tots as one of the charities for their donation. 3) Brother Scott Fielding reported on Brother Hank Booth. He is welcoming visitors at any time and would like to talk to the brothers. He is doing better and is getting better slow and steady. He will have hip surgery shortly. 4) The August 2017 meeting will be at Fort King Solomon on Sunday, the 27 th of August 2017, at 1700 hours (5pm) after Heroes meeting at 3pm. Camp Followers will meet during the Heroes meeting. A pot luck dinner will be held with the chapter providing chicken as the main course and the members providing the sides. Camp: 1) A Bivouac will be held on Sunday, 27 August 2017 at Fort King Solomon in Crozet, VA. The Bivouac will begin at 1500 hours (3pm) followed by a chapter meeting at 5pm. 2) Flag presentation has been requested for the Grand Master s visit for the 18 th Masonic District at Ivy Creek Methodist Church on 16 June 2017. We will need to meet at 1700 hours with a social starting at 1800 hours and dinner at 1830 hours. 3) Heroes will attend the Stanardsville Fourth of July celebration to assist with ceremonial funtions. 4) On 6 October 2017, the University of Virginia will be celebrating the 200 th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of Central College (later the University of Virginia). The Masons at the time (in 1817) played a major role in laying of the cornerstone. The Camp has been requested to participate with flags. Details are still being worked out.

5) The Camp has been asked to present flags on 23 September 2017 for the Grand Commander of the Commandry. A request was also made for the Camp Followers to provide a program. 6) Bro Bill Baskerville will present a program at Linn Banks Lodge on 16 November 2017. No need for the flags at this program. Presentation of Petition: None. Secret Balloting on Petitions: N/A. Initiation of New Members: N/A Unfinished Business: --The idea of publishing a list of members with addresses and e-mail will not be done. Many members objected to have their information published. If a member needs to contact another member, he will ask the secretary or president for the information. --Motion was made by Bro Scott and seconded by Bro Jeff to send four (4) youths to the Valley Forge Foundation Youth Leadership Conference (YLC). We have four nominations (2 from Buckingham High School, 1 from Orange High School, and 1 from Harrisonburg High School). Motion passed. --Motion was made by Bro Jeff and seconded by Bro Bill to have the additional money for the YLC taken from unrestricted fund. The members will also solicited funds from area lodges and members to build up the Youth Leadership Fund. Motion passed. Note: Members contributed $120 at the meeting for the Youth Leadership Fund. --The chapter has received $100 each from the following Lodges for the Youth Leadership Fund: Linn Banks, Barboursville, Fairfax for a total of $300. New Business: --Next meeting will be held on Sunday, 27 th of August 2017. The meeting will take place at King Solomon Lodge in Crozet, VA at 1700 hours (5pm) and will be proceeded by a Bivouac of the Heroes of 76 at 1500 hours (3pm). The Camp Followers and ladies of the Chapter will organize a pot luck dinner with the Chapter providing the main course of chicken. --Motion made by Bro Bill and seconded by Bro Scott to fund one night for lodging for either the National President or National Commander at the FACE in August (approximately $85). Motion passed. --The 6 th December 2017 Meeting will be held at a restaurant. Motion was made by Bro Jeff and seconded by Bro Bill to have the meeting at the Aberdeen Barn in Charlottesville. Motion passed. (Since the meeting, Bro Jeff reports that a reservation has been made at the Aberdeen Barn for 1800 hours Thanks Bro Jeff!).

Reports of Standing Committees: --Americanism Awards: We provided and presented 14 JROTC and ROTC Americanism Awards. Seven went to ROTC units (Virginia Tech, UVA, and VMI) and seven to JROTC units (Fork Union, George Washington High, Orange County High, Buckingham County High, Patrick County High, Harrisonburg High, and Fishburne). Program None due to election and installation of officers. Election of Officers: The following members were nominated and elected to be officers of the James Monroe Chapter #549: --President: Edgar (Ed) Crebbs --1 st Vice President: Scott Fielding --2 nd Vice President: Jim Fields --3 rd Vice President: Fred Soutter Jr. --Secretary/Treasurer: Kent Schlussel --Marshal: Hank Booth --Chaplain: Russ Snodgrass The following Heroes of 76 were nominated and elected to be officers in the Jack Jouett Camp Heroes of 76: Commander: Chief-of-Staff Assistant Chief-of-Staff Adjutant Commander of the Guard Officer of the Day Senior Lieutenant Junior Lieutenant Sentinel Chaplain Edgar Crebbs Kent Schlussel Jim Fields Hank Booth Mike Griffin Jeff Hodges David Goodman Scott Fielding Harvey Fleishman Russ Snodgrass The officers were installed in their appropriate positions by Bro Jeff Hodges who served as Installing Officer in a Joint Installation Ceremony. --The gravel was passed to all in attendance. Everyone thanked each other for the fellowship of the meeting, and the great food. Everyone thanked the Tomlin s for their hospitality and for the delicious dinner provided by them. Closing: The meeting was closed in proper form by President Crebbs at approximately 2045 hours.
