Lutz said that the Bard has received the Cllege financial statements fr the mnth ended April 30, 2017. With 2 mnths left, the Cllege has received mst f the tuitin and fees fr the fiscal year. D. Lutz said that the variance n the revenue side that is a result f decreased enrllments is ffset by a reductin in expenses because f the reserve that the Cllege set aside last year fr this purpse. D. Lutz said that she prjects that the Cllege will be verbudget in the area f instructinal salaries, but that underspending due t vacancies thrughut the year will ffset the verage. R. PURCHASE OF COMPUTERS AND EQUIPMENT FROM DELL CORPORATION (BA5184) It is the recmmendatin f the administratin that the Bard f Trustees apprve the purchase f 176 cmputers, a backup server, fur (4) virtual servers, 48 memry mdules and a tape drive as part f the data center and academic lab lifecycle replacement at a cst f $333,522 frm Dell Crpratin. STUDENT SUCCESS: CHEMISTRY RESEARCH Dr. David Baker, Prfessr f Chemistry, and Lacey Brisette, Chemistry Student, presented n research pprtunities that are available t students. Lacey presented her prject Cmparing the effects f Dwex t sulfuric acid as a catalyst n the synthesis f benzel acetate. Lacey discussed the wnderful and supprtive experience that she had and cntinues t have as a student at Delta Cllege. She added that, because f the research experience she gained, she was able t btain a jb as a cp at Dw. PRESIDENT S REPORT The Spring Semester began n Mnday, May 8. Tdate 3,850 students are enrlled. (3,596 parttime, 254 fulltime). Registratin fr the Fall 2017 Semester began n Tuesday, April 11. Tdate, 3,963 students have registered (2,437 parttime, 1,526 fulltime). Als, there will be a free, cmmunity wide pen huse at the Planetarium n Saturday, May 13, frm 11 a.m. t 4 p.m. When Cngress passed the federal budget extensin last mnth, it included language restring the Year Rund Pell prgram fr the 20172018 academic year. This will be great news fr ur students wh may want t take additinal classes and credits next spring and summer. Als included in the funding bill was $445 millin fr the Crpratin fr Public Bradcasting and $50 millin fr PBS new intercnnectin system. Bth f these items Pell grants and CPB funding were items that Chair Emrich, Vice Chair Middletn and Dr. Gdnw discussed with ur legislatrs when they visited their ffices back in February. A new advertising campaign will begin at the end f May. With input frm Enrllment Services and Academics, the creative design fllws the Think Big theme, featuring testimnials by students, graduates and faculty. The campaign will fcus n key ccupatinal prgrams. The campaign will feature billbards, scial media, cmmunity magazines and newspapers, direct mail, and radi ads. REQUEST FOR CLOSED SESSION FOR PURPOSES OF EVALUATION OF THE PRESIDENT & PROCESS FOR PRESIDENT S EVALUATION Dr. Gdnw distributed a mem t the Bard requesting that her 201617 evaluatin be cnducted in a clsed sessin. Dr. Emrich nted receipt f the mem and reviewed the timeline fr the President s evaluatin. He said that the President s Evaluatin and Cmpensatin Cmmittee met and reviewed the timeline n Mnday, May 1, 2017. Dr. Emrich said that the Survey Mnkey evaluatin will pen the Bard n Friday, May 12. Trustees will have until May 26 t cmplete the survey. On Wednesday, May 31, the President s Evaluatin and Cmpensatin Cmmittee will meet n main campus. On Friday, June 9, the Bard will have a special meeting fr the purpse f cnducting the President s evaluatin. The meeting will take place at the Delta Cllege Planetarium and Learning Center. CANCELATION OF THE JULY 2017 REGULAR BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING (BA5185) Dr. Emrich stated that the Bard is nt anticipating any agenda items fr July and that the Bard will be tgether fr the annual MCCA Summer Wrkshp at the end July. Rwley said that he watched the QTV dcumentary n ur lcal histry and thught it was very well dne. M. Rwley said that he has been reflecting n last mnth s Dinner Meeting Presentatin n enrllment management. Of particular cncern are the lw retentin and graduatin rates and the new cmpetitin we are facing. In additin, M. Rwley said that he is cncerned with having a structurally unbalanced budget. He suggested cnsidering a way t enhance the dllars that are awarded t ur students by lcal fundatins. In additin, he asked the Administratin t cnsider an idea that was shared in Trustee Quarterly regarding giving away credit hurs. A student wuld pay fr a certain number f hurs in Fall and Winter and wuld receive free credit t use in Spring. K. LawrenceWebster mentined that she recently vlunteered at Saginaw High and ne f the reasns that students were chsing ther clleges (she mentined Jacksn Cllege) is because they have drms. D. Middletn said that she is encuraged by the restratin f summer PELL. She als cmmented n the emplyee hires/separatins reprt fr the mnth f April. She nted the years f lngevity f thse separating and retiring and said that in additin t prviding and excellent experience fr ur students, we are prviding an excellent experience fr ur emplyees. D. Middletn said that she really enjyed Cmmencement and the Student Graduate Awards. R. E. Selby asked abut prgress n pen educatinal resurces. B. Webb said that there is a cmmittee explring ptins with publishers and a pilt shuld be ready in 201718. M. Benecke said that we need disruptive innvatin. She asked if we have data n what infrmatin students use t make their decisins. CHAIR COMMENTS Dr. Emrich said that the Cllege is fcusing n retentin and he participated in several cnversatins regarding retentin strategies at the AQIP Strategy Frum in Nvember 2016. Dr. Emrich thanked his clleagues n the Bard fr thinking utside f the bx. He said that this institutin is facing challenges and the ideas f the Bard and the entire institutin will be needed t mve thrugh thse challenges.
