Dear Parishioners, As we enter into a new season, now may be a good time to bring to mind some spiritual basics. We first need to always remember that we were created by God to have an intimate relationship with Him. This world can be so distracting that we often lose perspective. Yes, we have to live our lives in this world. We have our responsibilities, such as our work, our families, and paying our bills. For some, there is the constant distraction of social media. We do what we can to have a healthy body by exercising and proper nutrition. We try to have healthy relationships but sometimes we exert so much energy in dysfunctional and abusive relationships. With all these things going on in our lives, God regularly takes a back seat. Of course we know He should be leading the way and be the focus of our lives. When we wake up, we should thank the Lord for a brand new day and make ourselves available as to how He may want to use us for that day. Just as we talk and listen to our family and friends, we should strive to spend time in prayer and Scripture, talking and listening to our best friend, who is God. We should even consider attending Mass as frequently as we can, even daily, and dropping in the chapel to greet Jesus who is present in the Eucharist. How we live our lives during our time on earth will determine our eternity, heaven or hell. When we pass from this life, all our possessions are left behind. Our souls will go before the Lord for judgement. When we see Jesus, we want to see our friend, our Lord and shepherd who loves us unconditionally, who delights in His creation, who made us as a unique individual precious in His eyes. Let us make the caring of our spirits our number one priority. All of our programs, adult faith formation, religious education and our parish school are available to you to help you achieve this goal. We also need to remember the activity of tithing, which means giving God the first tenth of our income. We should place our trust in God for all that we need not in money. I ask that you give part of your tithe to support your parish in meeting our expenses. We give you a report each month on what we spend and what we receive as income. Our finance committee determined that we need $15,500 a week to meet our expenses, without the need of additional collections. I do thank you for your generous support for your parish. I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, September 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2

Reflection of the Week There is a longing in every heart that only Jesus can satisfy. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY Scripture Reading & Discussion Tuesday 7:30 p.m. HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 p.m. Thursday 2:00 p.m. Spiritual Teaching Serve Continually When educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom, researching how to develop talent in young people, examined the childhoods of 120 elite performers athletes, artists, scholars he found that all of them had one thing in common: they had practiced intensively for long periods of time. Bloom s research suggests that growing in any area of our lives requires discipline. In our walk with God, too, cultivating the spiritual discipline of regularly spending time with Him is one way we can grow in our trust in Him. Daniel is a good example of someone who prioritized a disciplined walk with God. As a young person, Daniel started making careful and wise decisions (1:8). He also was committed to praying regularly, giving thanks to God (6:10). His frequent seeking of God resulted in a life in which his faith was easily recognized by those around him. In fact, King Darius described Daniel as a servant of the living God (v. 20) and twice described him as a person who served God continually (vv. 16, 20). Like Daniel, we desperately need God. How good to know that God works in us so that we long to spend time with Him! (Philippians 2:13). So let us come every day before God, trusting that our time with Him will result in a love that will overflow more and more and in a growing knowledge and understanding of our Savior (1:9 11). ~ Keila Ochoa Keila Ochoa. Franciscan Spiritual Direction Franciscan Spiritual Direction is a guided invitation to walk with the Holy Spirit. It invites us to engage our deepest selves - wherever we are - and enables us to respond in truth. The seeds we plant allow us to recognize God s presence in the challenges, as well as the joys, of living. Spirituality is present as we work, study, pray and play, and allows our holiness to become wholeness. As Jesus instructed the fishermen, who later became His Apostles, push the boat out further; there is more. What is happening in your heart and mind? What do you want God to hear, and what is He asking of you? Kate is certified in Franciscan Spiritual Direction and can be reached at kate.chandler44@gmail.com or 781-439-4977.
