Lifetime Learners Institute The Lifetime Learners Institute presents a series of educational programs and social activities centered around a variety of topics. Participants may register for individual classes or an entire season. Lectures, discussions, presentations, and optional field trips provide the structure of the programs. The Lifetime Learners season begins in January and ends in March allowing for both our year-round and much-welcomed snow friends an opportunity to attend. Sessions are held every Thursday with at least one field trip per month. Field trips provide a relaxed environment for adults to develop new interests and enjoy opportunities for personal growth and social interaction with like-minded people. The top five finalists in each age and gender category qualify to compete in the Florida Senior Games State Championships. Nia Technique: Moving to Heal - $28 Highlands UC 109 11286 Oct. 16 Nov. 6, 2018 T 9-10 a.m. Nia Technique: Moving to Heal is a restorative fitness program focused on movement to heal the body. This movement combines dance arts for cardiovascular health and self-expression; martial arts for strength and precision; and healing arts for strength and stretch. This class will enhance the therapeutic experience and discover the body s way through natural, gentle movement and sensory awareness. This is a 60-minute class performed barefoot while standing or seated. Movements can be completed at your own pace, slower, or faster. A free demo will be given on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 from 9-9:25 a.m. in the University Center lobby. This is a great class for everybody no matter what your health or fitness! In this class, you will be exercising with a medicine ball in a round tote and drum sticks all done to music. This class can be low impact or high impact depending on your needs. Everyone s rhythm comes together to create a fun, new way to exercise. Students will need to bring a tote (found at any hardware store), a medicine ball that fits in the bottom of the tote, and drumsticks. This class will take all your stress away and help you get fit. Three Chinese ways of healing and prevention of illness and injury are part of the weekly classes. The instructor will give a live demonstration on how to safely and properly change a tire, check tire pressure, check fluids (e.g., oil, water, transmission, brake, steering and washer), check the air filter, and will show you how to replace a battery. After completion of this workshop, you should be able to identify certain tools that are used to maintain your vehicle, such as: tire gauges, tire jacks, lug wrenches, wheel wedges and safety triangles, and you should be able to utilize these tools to illustrate the proper protocol on how to safely change a tire. The instructor will guide you on how to look for tire wear and show you how to properly check the pressure and inflate or deflate the tire to factory specification.
