vol. 20 no. 8 AUG 2018 VIEWER GUIDE FOR MEMBERS OF KCTS 9 > three-part series premieres WED Aug 1 9p The Outback POV: Still Tomorrow Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles 1

The Outback three-part series premieres WED Aug 1 8p This beautifully filmed series explores the remote Kimberley region of Northwest Australia a vast and rugged wilderness bursting with character. Covering an area the size of California, Kimberley has a population of only about 40,000 people. Its residents live alongside animals that have adapted superbly to the harsh and beautiful extremes of their habitat. This series is a spectacular look at life in Australia s unique and precious northwest corner. Wonders of Mexico three-part series premieres WED Aug 1 9p This series highlights three unique and fascinating regions of Mexico. The Yucatán Peninsula is rich in tropical wildlife, including monkeys, jaguars and vibrant birds; it also hides a secret underworld that holds the key to life in the area. The mountains of Mexico feature fiery volcanoes, black bears and millions of exquisite monarch butterflies. And Northern Mexico s desert is rich with life; from prairie dogs fighting snakes to tiny owls living in giant cacti, its animals have found ways to survive against the odds. POV: Still Tomorrow MON Aug 6 10p A village woman with no high school diploma becomes China s most famous poet; her book of poetry is the bestselling such volume in China in the past 20 years. This film follows Yu Xiuhua, a 39-year-old woman living with cerebral palsy, as she faces sudden fame. The film poignantly weaves her personal narrative with that of an ascendant, urbanizing China. Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles MON Aug 13 9p John Parkinson is the architect who created many of Los Angeles most iconic structures, including City Hall, the Coliseum, Union Station and Bullocks Wilshire, among many others. The son of an English mill worker, he arrived in North in 1883 with a toolbox and five dollars in his pocket. When he died in 1935, the Los Angeles Times said, Future generations have only to walk through the streets of Los Angeles to be reminded how much John Parkinson in his lifetime contributed to the city that grew up under his hand.
