School Information Pack @wallabies2019
WELCOME For 35 years Hospice Isle of Man has been an integral part of our Island s community. In this special year we want to thank you for the support you have given us over this time and invite you to embark on this exciting project with us, supported by Wild In Art. Our focus over the next five years is to look beyond our building, to reach out and support more people in our community in a place of their choice at the right time for them. Wallabies Gone Wild provides the perfect opportunity for us to work collaboratively with our community to promote compassion, raise awareness of our services and generate the funds that will help us to continue to deliver care in the community. Getting involved in the education programme will provide your school with an opportunity to work with local artists, explore the Island s culture, engage with local businesses and work with us to develop life skills such as resilience and compassion amongst your staff and students. We look forward to working with you on this collaboration.

WALLABABIES GONE WILD EDUCATION PROGRAMME Integral to the main event will be the schools education programme, open to all schools on the Island. Each school involved will be given their own medium sized wallaby sculpture to design, which will then go on display during the trail and will be returned to the school to keep afterwards. The schools exhibition will last the duration of the main public art event and will add real value to the Wallabies gone Wild Trail. This will be a great opportunity for your school to showcase the creativity of your students and will create a treasured legacy of your involvement for future generations. How it works Each participating school will receive a blank wallaby sculpture accompanied by an Education Resource Pack that is linked to the national curriculum. The pack puts creativity at the heart of a programme of study, designed to complement key stage specific teaching for numerous subjects. Central to this pack is our Compassionate Communities Programme, which will include resources and training opportunities that will enable teachers and school staff to address issues surrounding bereavement in a sensitive and age appropriate way. We will also help develop key life skills such as resilience and compassion and provide opportunity for your students, teachers and parents to get directly involved in some of our community-centred projects.
HOW IT WORKS PHASE 1 Schools and community groups are invited to sign up to the education programme. Businesses are invited to sign up as event partners, supporters or sponsors. Artists, both well-known and undiscovered, are invited to submit sculpture designs. PHASE 2 The education programme will start to be delivered to schools that have signed up. Artists will present their unique sculpture designs to key partners and sculpture sponsors, who will then be matched appropriately. PHASE 3 Schools will customise their sculptures and the schools exhibition will be planned. The main trail route will be planned whilst the artists get to work customising their sculptures. PHASE 4 The schools exhibition will open to the public. At least 25 wallaby sculptures will go on display through the streets and public spaces of the Island from May - August 2019. During this time there will be increased PR, media and marketing activity including a dedicated app, website, printed literature and merchandise. PHASE 5 A farewell event will be arranged where the wallabies will be brought together for a period of a few days for those who are unable to complete the trail. The large wallabies will then take centre stage and go to auction, to raise funds for Hospice Isle of Man. The medium wallabies will be returned to the schools involved.
