Utility Corporate Membership Water Industry Operators Association of Australia WIOA organises and annually stages an operationally focussed conference and exhibition in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. These major events are designed to provide an opportunity for operations personnel and service and equipment suppliers to come together to discuss operational issues and see and hear about advances in technology and process methodologies. WIOA conferences aim to: Distribute the latest technical and research based information through platform and poster presentations. Update the knowledge and skills of operational staff through interaction with fellow water industry employees. Provide the opportunity to view and discuss the latest advances in technical equipment, products and services with suppliers and consultants. WIOA endeavours to develop our members and the wider water industry by providing a relaxed forum for operations staff to present technical papers (often for the first time) to their peers. In doing so confidence is raised, new skills are learnt and the opportunity to discuss real operational issues with their peers can result in the formation of valuable networks. The exhibitions are the largest annual regionally based water industry event in each state and provide a chance to discover and research new technology, equipment, services and ideas. WIOA encourages members to participate in networks in order to share information. In addition, WIOA collaborates with other water industry organisations to provide a range of joint initiatives for the benefit of the industry. Relationships include: WIOA Advisory Committees in Tasmania, Queensland, NSW and Victoria VicWater and the Queensland and NSW Water Directorates NSW Regional Organisations of Councils (ROC) and Water Alliances AWA State Branches Each year, an open invitation to attend the weekend seminar and Annual General Meeting of WIOA is sent to all members. Usually held in early March, attendees are treated to customised handson presentations from various companies and guest speakers about specific products, technology improvements or items of general interest to operations staff. We encourage presenters to bring along new equipment, challenge the audience, but most of all network with WIOA members and Committee in an informal relaxed environment. NSW 25 & 26 March QLD VIC 3 & 4 June 2 & 3 Sept WIOA runs a series of special interest seminars using the expertise of various members and supporters to provide the latest in information on specific topics. These seminars are staged as widely around Australia as possible with the topics and locations chosen based on demand. Seminars include: Water quality awareness and distribution system management Optimising chemical dosing, coagulation, flocculation and clarification Operation & optimisation of media filters Operation & validation of UV disinfection systems for water, wastewater & recycled water Calibration and operation of on line turbidity meters for reliable process monitoring of drinking water quality Activated carbon in water treatment Membrane function and operation for treatment of water and wastewater Introduction to water and wastewater treatment

WIOA provides recognition for Operators for the work they do and their ideas through our National, State and Conference Awards. We announce the NSW, Queensland and Victorian Operator of the Year at each respective conference as well as numerous other awards that recognise Excellence in Operations. Prize winning presenters from WIOA state conferences are invited to deliver their papers at other WIOA events in order to share their knowledge. WIOA endeavours to give back to the community wherever possible and has donated over $69,100 from a variety of sources since 1999. Funds raised have been donated to a number of worthy charities around Australia. Our main fund raisers include a Victorian Charity Golf Day and our Queensland Advisory Group hold a Charity Bowls Day. WIOA conducts a number of other fund raising activities at our conferences and events which assist us to raise funds for good causes across Australia and Internationally. The Kwatye prize has been presented annually since 2005, and has been designed to encourage creativity, recognise innovation and celebrate the passion of operations staff for the Australian water industry. Sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific, the award provides funding of up to $6,000 for the winner to undertake a project and share the findings with other members of the water industry. The Problem Accepted Solution Supplied (PASS) award provides an opportunity for water industry operational staff to share their in the field innovations and fixes to problems so that others in the water industry can benefit. There are a lot of great ideas and innovations that operators contribute to their water businesses every year. This award sponsored by Aqualift Pacific, aims to share these ideas through an annual publication with the best application awarded a place on the WIOA tour of New Zealand.
