NEW FACULTY 2017

Welcome to North Dakota State University, an institution recognized across the country as a student-focused, land-grant, research university. You will discover our institution is a welcoming and friendly place, with a dedicated and talented faculty and staff. NDSU is a special university. Few, if any, other land-grant universities, much less universities of our modest size, conduct research of our quality and quantity, and still remain focused on students. Our student to faculty ratio stands at 17 to 1 for the 2016-2017 academic year, a strong indication of our commitment to students. While the size of our entering classes has consistently grown over the past decade, in parallel, class profiles and graduation rates also have increased. NDSU s total expenditures on research development exceeded $156 million in fiscal 2016, as reported for the National Science Foundation s Higher Education Research and Development Survey (but not yet published). The university frequently is listed in the top 100 research universities in various categories. Aside from basic research, our successful Research and Technology Park continues to expand in size and productivity as we apply our research to the creation of new technologies, businesses and jobs. We have a national and international presence students come to us seeking a quality education at an affordable price. In fall 2017, NDSU had 14,358 students enrolled in its undergraduate, professional and graduate programs. Of that number, 3,306 are first-time or transfer undergraduate students, and our international student enrollment was 792. We have 2,037 graduate students. NDSU has more than 100 buildings on campus, eight major research and extension centers throughout the state, and extension programs in every county of North Dakota. The newest campus building, the A. Glenn Hill Center, opened in 2016 with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. NDSU also has a major presence in Fargo s vibrant downtown area. The architecture and landscape architecture programs are taught in both Renaissance Hall and Klai Hall: Renaissance Hall also is home to the visual arts department; and Richard H. Barry Hall holds the College of Business and Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics. The North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and NDSU Extension Service are integral parts of the university, and the university is firmly committed to its land-grant traditions. NDSU participates in the Tri-College University consortium with neighboring Minnesota State University Moorhead, Concordia College, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, and North Dakota State College of Science. NDSU has a strong reputation for excellence in education, research and service. Our more than 89,500 alumni will attest that NDSU has a meaningful, lasting impact on the lives of students and the economic prosperity of our community, state, region and nation. Thank you for joining our university you make NDSU even stronger. b Sincerely, President Dean L. Bresciani

I m delighted to welcome the newest members of our academic community to North Dakota State University. The stellar academic qualifications of our faculty in research, teaching and outreach exemplify the mission of NDSU as a student-focused, land-grant, research university. In research, our faculty are addressing some of the most difficult questions we face in North Dakota, in the nation and in the world. In teaching, our faculty are committed to student success and to using research to inform the curriculum and teaching practice. As part of the North Dakota University System, we work with our sister institutions to ensure we work efficiently and effectively to meet the educational needs of North Dakota. We serve our citizens through outreach and public service. Faculty take our landgrant mission seriously, and collaborate with communities on projects that improve the lives of people in North Dakota and across the upper Midwest. Again, I welcome you to campus and look forward to an opportunity to meet each of you over the coming year Best regards, Provost Beth Ingram
